I believe my Grandparents came from Westport Co. Mayo and my late father William "Bill" ILEY still has family there.
I think my Grandmothers name was Mary O'Shea and my Grandfather was John ILEY.
They left for Manchester where I believe my Father and his Siblings were born.

My Father, William Dever ILEY was born in Manchester 1922.
I know he had brothers and sisters but I don't know if any were born whilst my Grandparents were still in Westport. It's very probable that they were not married at the time of the 1901 census.
I only know the name of one of my fathers sisters and she was called Kathleen.
Thank you Donna

Hi Donna. Have you found your father's birth certificate? It should give the name of his mother and father. You can work back from that. It's a start. If you have any other details that you can put on here it will help widen the search. Dee

Donna. I have found a birth certificate for the following:
Oct-Dec 1922 William D Iley (Mother's name - Taylor) Vol. No. 8d Page no. 333
Does this make any sense? They mother's maiden name of Taylor?
Dee

My father was Born, 4th September 1922. I was always led to believe his mother's maiden name was O'Shea. I wonder whether I'm mistaken in thinking that. Family wasn't talked about whilst my mother was alive, mainly because Dad had a "past" and she was his second wife!
Where would I find a copy of the Birth Certificate? Is it possible over the net ?
Donna

Hello Donna. You can order the certificates from the Govt website. You need to register and can also pay on line. I noticed that you said your father was born in the Sept of 1922. The birth is registered in the last quarter Oct-Dec. Maybe the birth was registered late. I would advise you to check it before you order. When ordering you have to quote the 'quarter' of the birth and also the Volume No and page No.
Certificates: www.gro.gov.uk
To search for bmd's (paid site you need to buy units. You will also have to register first)
www.findmypast.com
I hope this is of some help to you. If you need more assistance, just ask. Everyone on this site is so helpful.
Regards Dee Melody

Hi Donna Your fathe's marriage license should also have his mother's maiden name on it. Is it possible for you to get that?

If marriage took place in Ireland only father's name and occupation will be listed- and I believe English certificates are the same. Birth certificate should list both parents.
