On 31st October 1863, Matilda Jones aged 20 a spinster of 97, Collyhurst Old Road, Manchester, married George Fisher aged 23 a fitter of the same address. Her father was Thomas a labourer, his father was Richard a baker. The witnesses were William Fisher, George's brother and Ellen Jones, Matilda's sister Matilda + George were my great grandparents. In the 1871 census her place of birth is mistranscribed as Inverkeillor, but the image seems to be Enniskillen. In the 1881 census her place of birth is Enniskillen. She would have been born in 1843.She was 58 and born Ireland in the 1901 census. She died in 1920 aged 78, outliving 2 of her 7 children and her husband George. There is no mention of her birth in the IGI. Irish birth records had not begun.Where can I find where she was born, and more importantly, who her mother was?

Hello Kooky,
What denomination was Matilda.
You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hello Kooky,
The records of St Anne's Parish Church, Enniskillen, which is now known as St McCartin's Cathedral, might contain the information you require. By the way the bell installation at the Cathedral, which was originally a chime, has had a ring of ten bells since 1935. www.bellringingireland.org/North/Enniskillen/Home.html
