Would anyone have any information on this lady (Census or otherwise) .She may have just USED the name Birchenough and not actually ever been married. The 1871 Census shows she had brother staying with her named Stephen Allen. She was Born about 1811 in Sandbach,Cheshire .She had 3 children that I know of Sarah ,Samuel and Henry (all using the Birchenough surname ).Lived in Union Street,Sandbach. Would anyone have details on birth , marriage or parents ? The BMD is not much use as I'm not sure if she is an Allen or Birchenough. Many thanks.

Hi Andrea Welcome to Rootschat The best place to start would be if you could get hold of a birth certificate for one of the children, there is an Henry b1841 indexed on the http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/ this may give a clue as to father and maybe an address. I have searched the 1851 census which is name indexed but there is no sign of them.

I noted your reply to my niece Andrea. Most useful. But I cannot trace Stephen Allan, apart from the 1871 Census. Nor Nathan or Sarah.
Could you give me birthdates and places please.
Also how do you access the 1851 Census (I'm just getting started - as you might gather - on a massive Birchenough family tree (my wife is Nancy Birchenough from Sandbach).

Hello Jonhb, I have transcribed the 1851 census you will find it at:
http://www.odd-rode.org.uk/
hope you find it usefull.
In the 1851 census Stephen is a lodger in Back Street, Sandbach I have'nt found him on any other census'.
I haven't found Nathan'sburial yet must have died before 1815, On the parish records for St Mary, Sandbach the entry for the marriage of John Allan & Sarah Birchenough it says that she is a widow.
Nathan Birchenough married Sarah Jones St Mary's, Sandbach, 29 Dec 1807.
I'm still looking for the births of Nathan & Sarah. Please let me know if I can be of any other help.
Moira

Moira ,thank you for the information and I think we share a similar research area ,although I have only reached as far back as Ann Birchenough in my line (so far) . I come back from the Birchenough side (maternally ) I've been fairly busy at work frecently and so have one only just restarted looking back. I've saved this URL and so if I find anything else I'll be in touch .Many thanks once again.

Hello Moira again, After working on the 'tree' tonight.I've found that (thanks to your information) Sarah Birchenough Poole is also my 2nd Great Grand-Mother. So I think this makes us related. I have the family history from Sarah on forward to modern day if you need any gaps to be filled.

at 148 Front Street Sandbach H.O.107 2168

Could Thomas ALLEN be the father of Stephen? He would have been born in abt 1778. can anyone help?

Hi, I've been in email contact with a lot of you about Birchenhough's in Sandbach, but only just found this message!
The Birchenhough I'm interested in is William Birchenhough, who in the 1851 census is shown living with his wife's family - the Cockbain's (house 111, The Heath). His place of birth is also listed as Sandbach, so I'm guessing he must be the son of one of the other Birchenhough families in that area (he was 24 in 1851) - does anyone who is tracing these lines back any further have any info on this William? If so, could I get access to it, or indeed to any other Birchenhough lines - I'm trying to track all of them in my family tree (software, gedcom format compatible), so that I can eventually link them up at some point.
Thanks,
Matthew

Excellent! Thats just he information I was looking for! Many thanks
I've looked back at the Sandbach 1851 census to try and determine which of the Birchenhough families living there William Birchenhough might be descended from. There is only one John Birchenhough, and he is listed as married with one son living in the property who is 17, which makes William's age of 24 seem reasonable. John's occupation is cordwainer, which I have discovered is a type of bootmaker, which ties in with the occupation of shoemaker listed on William's marriage records you gave me above.
So now my next question is - is anybody researching this line (John Birchenhough m. Sarah, son Peter)?
Many thanks once again - these last few days have moved my family tree forward immeasurably!
