Please could some kind person look on the 151 and 1861 census for Harry Place Farm Langdale/Kendal and see if there are any RIGg people there?

It is not possible to search the online census by address - or if it is I don't know how to do it!   There are various Rigg families in the Kendal area.  What names are you looking for?

Hi Andrea! I have them from 1901 - 1871 and then it starts to get sketchy. Im after Isaac RIGG b1856 (give or take a year), living at Langale or Elterwater, his father George RIGG should be at Langdale in 1841 and 1851 but I cannot locate him (probably visiting!).

I know that there were RIGGS at Harry Place around this time, just outside Langdale, and I really want to find out if they are the same family.

Can you quote the census reference for 1871?    Is this the Isaac who is married to a Sarah?    I cannot find him in 1861, nor a suitable George.  How do you know his father's name?    There is an older Isaac age 29 with mother Agnes age 53 and brothers Michael 20 and John 14 at Elterwater in 1861 RG9 3963 F133 p21.

Ref RG10/4247
Church Coniston
Hannah RIGG 50 Head Wid Charwoman B(can't decipher place)
Isaac RIGG 28 Son Mar Quarryman B Langdale
Agnes RIGG 23 Daug in law BChurch Coniston
(includes Isaac and Agnes' children).

Issac's father is named as George RIGG on Isaac's marriage cert.

There is an entry on a trade directory I found on the internet (I cannot remember the name of which offhand) which names the RIGG family as farmers residing at Harry Place in 1951.  I think I'm ging to have to get Isaac's birht cert  which might tell me more!

That entry gives him as age 28.  That is not born 1856 or thereabouts as you put in your post!   Maths was never my stong point  but I would put it at 1843 ish.  Quite a difference.   How old was he at marriage?
Hannah's birth place is Mungrisdale.

Andrea , Yes you are quite right! Silly me! His marriage took place in 1868 and he was at 'Full age', is this 21 or 25 years old?

There is a birth in 1842 in Kendal on FreeBMD which may be Issac.  If you write to the local office they will tell you if it is a son of Hannah and George.

FreeBMD also has a possible marriage for George Rigg and Hannah Wilkinson in Kendal in 1841.  There is also a possible death for George.

That is fantastic! Thank you so much! The Wilkinson surname makes sense because htere is a WIlkinson Rigg aged 12 on the 1901 census born to Isaac and Agnes. Im off to get copies of the originals now!
