Bicester Church, Oxford
« on: Thursday 22 February 07 09:33 GMT (UK) »

This Church has cropped up a few times while researching my HERRING family as a place where some ancestors married - can anyone tell me whether it still operates and where it is?  I've "googled" it, but it seems that most of the churches in that area are quite modern and I'm looking at pre-1901.

Hi - I think the church would be St Edburgs Bicester - which is a very old church and as far as I can see still operating, if this link works there is a good picture of it

Thanks Barbara and Debbie.  Much appreciated.  That looks like it could be the one.

Thanks DJ, that would be much appreciated.

I noted in your list of names researching, the name Lambourn.  I have one in my tree - an Elizabeth Lambourne married John Templer, early to mid 1700s, but I haven't followed up that area of research yet.  I think this Elizabeth Lambourne may have been born in Ludgershall.

Anyway - I'll sort through my records and see what I need from Bicester.

Thank you for the offer.

Best wishes

Hi Jan ,

i looked at the link for the photo, i think it's the church that she had her children christened iin a few years ago ! Smiley

I will be going from time to time so i'm happy to do the grave stone hunt if you wish.
My Lamburn/Lambourn originate from Wheatley oxon - have not gone back further than 1806.Think i hit a brickwall. They lived in old Marston after that

Thanks DJ

I'll look out for your Lambourn's when I tackle that side of the tree.

I'm struggling with my Johnston Brickwall of 10 years, so I'm going sideways to try and pick up more info.  The tree is getting larger and it's all very interesting, but I really want to get further back on my Dad's side.
