I was sent this some years ago

NAMING PATTERN USED EARLY 1700’s...

This pattern was evidently prevalent in the 1700’s, fading out gradually in the mid 1800’s
It does appear to ring true in many instances but infant deaths can mess it up.

The FIRST SON was named after the FATHER'S FATHER
The SECOND SON was named after the MOTHER's FATHER
The THIRD SON was named after the FATHER
The FOURTH SON was named after the FATHER's ELDEST BROTHER
The FIRST DAUGHTER after the MOTHER's MOTHER
The SECOND DAUGHTER after the FATHER'S MOTHER
The THIRD DAUGHTER after the MOTHER
The FOURTH DAUGHTER after the MOTHER's ELDEST SISTER

Hi Allan

Just to confuse things, in my family the first born is always named after the father.

I don't know if it's just a welsh thing or if its just our lot - which ever way it confuses things for me!
