This request may be too unspecific, but here goes: Mary Randels, Riddel, or Reynolds
From her census and death records, she was born in about 1802. According to one of the census records she was born in Portsmouth (others just say England).
Her parents are William Randels/Riddel/Reynolds and Mary
She married John Winchester, a Scottish soldier. I have no idea where. They travelled to Ireland, Canada, and ended up in Scotland
Any hope of finding a birth record or a marriage record or do I just have to little information?
Thanks

There are four possible candidates for a baptism of a Mary Reynolds in the Portsmouth area showing on the IGI - three are extracted records and the other is a submission.

From the information that I have been able to gather about the St Thomas, Portsmouth records, there are no baptism records from that site, but there are plenty of Reynolds marriage records. I assume that baptisms are likely to have happened there, so the records not being there is a sign that they happened, but not be on the IGI. For this reason, I am not treating the Mary Reynolds baptisms on the IGI seriously.
Does this seem reasonable? Is it likely that anyone using Rootschat would have access to baptisms at St Thomas, and would it be appropriate to ask for a lookup of this information just in case someone was well placed to do such a search?
Thanks, Ana

There are some baptisms for Portsmouth, including St Thomas, on the Hampshire OPC site

Extracted records included on the IGI can be a reliable guide but should always be checked against the original. As far as I can see, the extracted baptisms for Portsmouth St Thomas are included on the IGI and it might prove worthwhile to follow them up. Many residents of Portsmouth, Portsea, Alverstoke and Gosport at that time can be found in the registers of the neighbouring parishes. Large numbers of people lived in the area and did not always stay within one parish. A baptism in Portsea should not be ruled out. I have families with baptisms in all of these parishes within the same generation.
There is one Mary Ann Reynolds baptism in 1802 recorded at St Thomas (as per the IGI), one for Mary Reynolds in Gosport in 1803 and another in Alverstoke, and then another in Portsea in 1804, all on the IGI. All are extracted records.
Hopefully someone may be able to look this information up for you when they next visit either Portsmouth or Winchester.
The alternative is that you order the film from your local LDS Family History Centre for a small fee and then you can browse it yourself. You may be able to find more information.
