I am having problems on this family when looking them up on the census, mainly because the spelling changes more often than my Grandsons change their socks !!!!!
HOLLICK/HOLLOCK/HULLOCK/HALLOCK/HALLOCH !!!!!!
The 1st sighting of this family is on the 1851. BIRMINGHAM.
THOMAS HALLOCK,31, Slater, b CUMBERLAND. JANE HALLOCK, 31, wife, b YORKS. John,3 b B'ham Ann,2 b B'ham William 1 month. b B'ham.
Is this a Cumberland surname, and if so what is the CORRECT spelling?
Ther's never a correct spelling, just a conventional one.
Surname spellings become more standardised as one comes forward to present-day.
