Tracing Florence PARKER
« on: Tuesday 27 February 07 14:36 GMT (UK) »

Hi All

I have been trying to trace the siblings of my Gt Grandfather, George Parker, and have been having a fair bit of success.  However one of his sisters, Florence (born 1875), seems to be eluding me.  In the 1891 census she is living with her parents Benjamin and Elizabeth and siblings George, Lizzie and Sarah in High Oak Road Ware (Ref RG12/1094/82/23).  By the time of the 1901 census however it is only Sarah who is at home (Ref RG13/1282/97/23) and a search on Ancestry reveals no possibles who were born in Ware, however if the search is widened to include ‘soundex’ a Florence Pricer appears as a servant to a family in Turnham Green, Chiswick (Ref RG13/1200/58/10) who it says was born in Ware, Hertfordshire abt 1876.

As far as I can see this woman does not appear on previous census, as Florence Pricer, and therefore do any of you think this might be my ancestor?

Your collective thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Anthony

Hi Anthony,
Having a look at the actual image it does read Pricer quite clearly. Do a general search and theres a few that come up but not born in Ware, maybe like some of the other census their birth areas seem to change, its a possibilty.
Not being familar with the towns I couldn't say whats closer to Ware.

Although the image definitely looks like PRICER, there are no Pricer births recorded anywhere in the country 1870-1880 - Free BMD has complete coverage for this period.  Florence Pricer doesn't show up on any other census, and I haven't found a marriage or death for her, so I think it could well be an error, and this is indeed Florence PRICE.

Hi Rambler

Looks like it is Florence Price as she is also on the 1891 census as a servant in Chiswick. Umm dosnt solve where Florence Parker is in 1901 though!

Thanks

Well at least we've eliminated one possibility!  Grin

Have you eliminated the Florrie PARKER b. c1875 Hitchen boarding in St Pancras in 1901?  I can't imediately spot the same details in 1881/91, so might be an innacurate birthplace?  (RG13/154/69/57)

Hi Rambler

Yes it has eliminated one possiblity, that one you found is a possiblity although as Hitchin is some distance from Ware it is probably unlikely.

As I cant find a death in Ware for her before 1901 my best guess would be she got married, although the most likely marriage in Ware for her I thought was in 1903. Think I need to go to HALS and search the marriage registers for St Mary's and Christ Church in Ware. Of course she may have got married elsewhere and then who knows..... anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks
