Hi - I believe the Thayers were lords of the manor of Langham for quite some time in the 1600 & 1700 s. I am particularly interested in a Humphrey Thayer who died in 1737, I should really like to know who he married. I believe he had a daughter Elizabeth (who married Richard Knollys) - but did he have any others? I don't think he had a male heir as the manor seems to have passed to his brother Samuel. Can anyone help with any information on this family as I am trying to sort out a complicated line of inheritance for someone?

I presume you've already looked at the Essex Record Office's SEAX database. Several reference to Samuel and Humphrey mainly for granting of copyhold of manor of Langham.
and
Victorian Counties History. 'Langham: Manors and other estates', A History of the County of Essex: Volume 10: Lexden Hundred (Part) including Dedham, Earls Colne and Wivenhoe (2001), pp. 248-51. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=15266
See the reference in the footnotes to mural tablets in the church. Perhaps further information may be on those?
Thanks for the reply Phil - yes I had checked the SEAX site - what a great site - I wish all reocrd offices had one. I also found the bit on the british history site which was how I presumed that Humphrey had no sons as his brother Samuel inherited the manor. I think this family lived much of the time in London - it is not easy finding much about them, I shall follow up your tip about the church monuments - Thanks
