1851 Census - CHRISTIE
« on: Wednesday 28 February 07 11:50 GMT (UK) »

Robert Christie born 13/6/1831 is not on the 1851 Scottish census with his parents. If it is my Robert he marries Sarah Warner Canterbury 1854. Can anyone find his whereabouts in Scotland.

Hi William

There is a Robert in the 1851 Census matching the birth entry for a Robert in St Cyrys, Kincardine.

He is a visitor at the household of Robert (also a tailor) and Isabella Balfour.

Robert's details are as follows: age 20, a tailor (journeyman), b. St Cyrus. The household address is: 1 Victoria Street, Montrose, Angus.

Regards.

Thanks Monica
The Robert that marries Sarah is also a tailor, his father's name is William and the only one I could find on IGI was the Robert born in St Cyrus.  I won't say this confirms it but it is so close.

William

Maybe worth comparing father William's occupation from the 1851 Census (by the sounds of it, you have that already, if not - let me know) and what occupation is given for Robert's father in his MC in 1854.

You might also want to look to see whether they followed Scottish naming pattern for their children and whether any family surnames were used as middle names.

Regards.
