Hi Sarah,

What wonderful pictures you have taken , but so very sad about the state of the Churchyard. Could not believe the names on the first gravestone that appeared - had to quickly get my files - and yes  John Alfred Cartlidge was the father of Eliza Gertrude Annie Cartlidge who married my gt. uncle Albert Pearson ( of 48 Welsh Row ) on the 21st October 1903, at The Parish Church Acton.

Should you  ever see any Pearson graves on any of your visits to the Churchyard I would really appreciate it at to date I have " lost " 3 generations of the Pearson family who are buried in Nantwich - all of the names are listed in the Burial Records for St Mary's Church Nantwich, starting with Thomas Pearson buried 5th April 1868, his wife Mary buried 18th October 1885, Rose Pearson 3 February 1920 aged 32 and Priscilla Pearson ( my gt grandmother ) 15th March 1922 aged 71. The address for the Pearsons from the 1880's was 48 Welsh Row Nantwich, so had thought that maybe they might have been buried in one of the few old graves that I believe used to be at St Mary's but no records seem to be available.

Thank you once again for such amazing pictures, quite made my day

Hi Susan,
Burials of that date will be in the Barony.
The last burial in St Mary's churchyard was Joseph Clarke on 20 July 1849. After that date they would be in the Barony. There are some records of the old Churchyard held by FHSC at Alsager but I do not think they are complete.

Whitehouse Lane opened in 1875 as the Nantwich General Cemetery and so since then there were 2 graveyards in use. I think the rule was that any burial through St Mary's was at the Barony and any other at Whitehouse Lane. Note that All Saints Chapel in the Barony graveyard was an annex to St Mary's.

Hi Peter,

Thank you very much for all of the information re the cemeteries in Nantwich, it is not easy trying to find a family grave when I do not live in Cheshire, let alone Nantwich.

Were there any graves at all at St Mary's Church Nantwich I wonder

Many thanks for your help, will just keep trying.

Glad to find an "owner" of one of my photos!!  Grin

Will add Pearson to the list on my next wander.......

Sarah Smiley

PS - St Mary's churchyard in front of the church is now grassed over but a hanful of stones laid flat remain around the edge of the church .....

Hi Sarah,

Thank you very much for the website - it looks from the date on the plaque as if it is unlikely that members of the Pearson family would have been buried at St Mary's. Church.

Have just left the family history research too late, no great aunts or uncles around to tell the family stories mores the pity.

Look forward to seeing more of you wonderful pictures,

Susan

Hi

I have been forwarded to yourself from Kathb in the hope that you may be able to help, I am looking for a death / burial for John O'Hara... I have two John's in my tree one was born c1790 but I can't find a death for him and the other (his grandson) was born c1839 and died in 1916, also Andrew O'Hara b. 1820 and d. 1847.  I wonder if you would be so kind as to have a look for me, 80% of my relatives were born in Nantwich and I was born in Crewe but I now live in Lancashire so it is a bit difficult to get there now.... I wish I had started my family history before I moved it would have made life a lot easier!!

Thanks in advance

Hi All

Just to let you know I've added an ongoing list of surnames which I have the gravestone photos for (Barony All-Saints and Whitehouse Lane) to the Cheshire Resources board

Hi!

Wonderful photos!

I am researching the family history of the Robinson family, David Robinson 1798-1868 and his son John Robinson 1826-1894 - the Robinsons were Nantwich shoemakers. I see you are listing Robinson graves in the Whitehouse lane cemetary and wonder if you could give me details. I do not live in the area but am hoping to visit Nantwich later this year and if the graves you have photographed belong to my ancestors it would be nice to know where to look.

Many thanks.

I did come across a Charles Robinson who died July 31st 1879 aged 57.....have posted the photo below just in case he's one of yours!!  Grin

Hi Sarah

Many thanks for checking your photos - unfortunately Charles Robinson is not one of mine.

However, someone has very kindly sent me a photo today of John's  grave but am still looking for David Robinson's who died in 1868 and was married to Sarah.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Sarah,

I'm interested in the photograph of the Sergeant grave you list at Barony All Saints on your Cheshire Resources thread - may help to solve a family mystery (or not!).
