How bizarre is this!! I was just browsing through this topic as I saw it had been updated when I spotted the photograph of the grave of John Procter and his second wife Mary. She was previously married to James Pennell who died in 1861. Even more curious is that I have a photograph that is believed to be of this couple.
It's sad to see how quickly a place can decline if it isn't looked after.

Hi Sarah,
That is SO sad to see the graveyard in such a state. Methinks there'll be some other motive behind it all- like the council trying to say after a while that no one cares about it, so they may as well use it for building........
What do you think?
My ancestors, as you know, are buried there. It was so good to receive photos from you of their graves.
I am bemused that no one has taken over the care of the graveyard. Surely the council has some responsibility by law? Or if not, then whoever owns the land I bet has signed some agreement that it is looked after...... or am I just wishing??
Thanks again Sarah for taking time and great care in sending those superb photos. You are a star!
Chris
