Why is it that when I try to clear things up other problems come to life!!
I have now bought the burials CD for Hertfordshire 1800-1850 -trying to sort out all my "lot"
The first Bateman I find is Ann Bateman died 31/3/1810 aged 86 lived in Stanstead Abbots. It says she died there and was buried elswhere.
Now I am very "short" of Batemans in the 18thC around that area - can anyone find who she might have married - supposing it was around the same area??!!
No other information available - not even sure if she is mine - but as so few Batemans she MUST be!!
Cheers

I've just done a quick search of the IGI (for 1740 - 1769) and the only marriages that look "reasonable" are:
Thomas Bateman M: Ann Coles 11.11.1755 St Albans or Francis Bateman M: Susannah Sexton 20.10.1767 Francis Bateman M: Susannah Sexton 28.09.1766 Hemel Hempstead (Two entries for Francis)
The bad news of the day is that they are all "submitted" entries
Of course, Ann Bateman may never have married - but there are no Baptisms with that name in Herts for +10 years - assuming she was born c. 1723.
I only searched Herts. Maybe someone will have better luck in another county.

I even tried that - but of course did not try other counties!
I did find a possible afterwards - Thomas Bateman - Ann Perks 1771 in Stanstead - not thought about a marriage when they were 50 - of course could be 2nd marriage for one/both of them.
Might try that going backwards.
Thanks for your help Di.

The PR for Ann states that she was buried at St.Margarets.
The Stanstead Abbotts PR also records - Thomas Bateman, bachelor and Ann Perks, widow, both otp married by banns 01 Feb1771, witnesses Nathan Smith and Martha Argent.
Another pint you owe me.
