i recently discovered that 3 of my late grandmothers siblings went to canada.
1.lizzie dyet nee nisbet travelled from scotland to halifax on the numidian in 1911. 2. sarah maxwell nee nisbet 3.john nisbet
i have been searching for sarah & john but can't find them. sarah was in hamilton, lanarkshire in 1906. john also was there in 1919.
i would greatly appreciate any help in finding them.

Hi, margaret!
Do you have dates of birth for them? (Even approximate will do.)
In what month in 1911 did Lizzie Dyet (nee Nisbet) arrive in Canada? (I'm wondering if it was before or after the 1911 census was taken in Canada.)
Do you have any clues as to where in Canada they might have settled or any other information that would help in identifying them in Canada? (Being careful not to publish info on anyone who is still living.)
Regards, Josephine

hi josephine
elizabeth nisbet was born on 07.05.1892, scotland she married william dyet on 01.04.1910.scotland on her marriage cert. she call herself lizzie. she travelled to canada on 17.06.1911 with her daughter jean. i'm assuming william travelled over before that date.
john caldwell nisbet was born on 11.09.1897, scotland he married isabella jones on 07.02.1919 in scotland
sarah McCartney nisbet was born 12.04.1886, scotland she married david maxwell on 13.07.1906 in scotland
the spelling of their names on birth & marriage certificates varied between nisbet & nesbit

margaret,
Have you seen these websites?
Nova Scotia Archives re Vital Statistics (in progress): http://www.gov.ns.ca/nsarm/vitalstats/
Nova Scotia GenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~canns/
Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia (I didn't ask their religion, but just in case): http://www.nspeidiocese.ca/
Library and Archives Canada - Soldiers of the First World War: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/cef/001042-100.01-e.html
If you search on William Dyet, there is one record for a man born in 1883 in Larnarkshire, Scotland, with a wife named Elizabeth.
I got 10 hits for David Maxwell and a few results for John N?sb?t. You'd have to check the birth dates and click on the records to view them. (Keep in mind that some men lied about their age when they signed up for service.) I searched on the given names of John Caldwell with no surname and nothing looks like Nisbet/Nesbit, but check it out and see what you think.
I'll keep looking around to see if I can think of any more sites that might be useful to you.
Regards, Josephine

margaret,
1911 Census of Nova Scotia, Canada Cape Breton North-Victoria, Sub-District 17
All living at Sydney Mines, all Presbyterian
David Maxwell, married, born July 1885, Scotland, age 26, immigrated in 1908, miner Sarah Maxwell, wife, born April 1886, Scotland, age 25, immigrated in 1908 Jordan (?) Maxwell, son, born December 1907, Scotland, age 4, immigrated in 1908 Henry (?) Maxwell, son, born March 1908, Nova Scotia, age 1 William Dyet (?), lodger, married, born May (?) 1888, Scotland, age 23, immigrated in 1910, miner
I think the William Dyet in the World War One attestation papers is the same guy because he was listed as living at Sydney Mines.

If you search the Latter Day Saints / Family History site, you will find the birth of a James Stark Nessbitt Dyet, note third name ( Wm./ Eliz.) who only just died in 2001... maybe an obit could be found with more information!
Here is the site, which also has extracted Parish births/ christening marriages censuses 1881 Can/Britain and also 1880 U.S. some pedigree charts and Birth Christening Deaths, which are submissions as are yours, not always reliable, but a good source of information! http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

Jordan is really Gordon, he was born in Scotland before his MOm arrived in Canada. William Dyet was the brother in law of Sarah, who's sister (Lizzie) Elizabeth married. Lizzie arrived in Canada June 11, 1911. John arrived after 1919, I am searching the 1920 boat arrivals, but it is slow going as the military was returning from WW1 at that time. Gordon's wife is still living and as a matter of fact became a great grandmother last week. William and lizzie lived in Sydney Mines, they are both buried there in Brookside Cemetery as well as their Daughter Jean. There is one remaining son living in Ontairo, he is in his 90's . All other children of William and LIzzie have died. John Nisbet arrived in Canada with his wife Isabella, date still not known, and also lived in Sydney Mines, as a matter of fact, his house could be seen from his sister Sarah's house. Bella was noted for doing a lot of Christmas baking and serving it to the neighbour kids when they did something for her, it could be in January or July. Poor Kids...They had 2 boys, both moved to Ontario. John and Bella moved to Ontario and are probably buried there. John died first, Bella returned to NS for a while. David immigrated in 1906, he went to British Columbia and Phyldelphia checking out the mines. He went to Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia , wrote Sarah to tell her and she immediately hopped the boat and sailed over. She figured they had been separated long enough. David joined the army in WW1 and when he returned home he stopped at the train station to find out where he lived as Sarah has purchased a house while he was gone. David bred canaries and sold them to the mines for gas testing...hard on the birds but that is what they did back then. David died in 1940, Sarah in 1975. They are both buried in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Hope this answers some of your questions
