Census information Crown Copyright, from www.natio
|
Hello all
I have been trying to find out information on this women for sometime now. Her name is edith Anna Clarke. She married John Bainton and on the 1901 census they are together in the pub John bainton own. On the 1891 census she is also in the pub but under the name Clarke.
This is where my tracking ends. I have tried to find her on ealier census but cannot be sure where she is.
I have also tried to find a birth record for her but cannot find it.
In 1891 she is stated as being born in Buckland Newton, somerset, in 1867.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
All the best
scott

Hi Scott, It could be that Clarke was not her birth name, what is her status on the 1891 census and is she down as Joh Baintons wife on the 1901

1901 she is his wife and is Edith A. Bainton but in 1891 it is down as servant but when looking at the actual census it says manageress. It does not say he is married to her though.
That is a possibility.
Thanks again Patrish
All the best,
Scott

If you get the marriage cert you could find out what her maiden name was, when was she born and where did they live?

Strangely after spending months trying to find her all of a sudden it has come up.
IGI, even though i have used it before states 1867, Edith Ann Clark, born buckland, parents John and mary ann.
God knows how I have not found that before.
Has anyone else had a problem with the IGI search engine, that is if the year range of the search in wide some records which are clearly in the search criteria are missed?
All the best

Hi Patrish John Morse Bainton was the stepson of my great gran's 1st cousin. His stepmother worked in a Pub before marriage.
My great gran emigrated to NZ in 1878. Her 3 uncles & umpteen cousins emigrated to Australia. John Morse Bainton had a step aunt & step uncle who emigrated to Australia in the mid 1880s.
We Colonials have no idea what happened to those left behind in England. We have to purchase every cert to ensure we have the correct lineage going forwards. We don't have names to work backwards from 2008.
Sometimes when you see names like John Bainton and an Edith (both commomly used Down Under) it is worth a punt to see if there might be a connection however remote it might be.
Bath Somerset was the venue for 2 marriage certs that I have so anything was possible! Cheers Marlene
