Help needed with 1851 census lookups in Deptford
« on: Monday 05 March 07 08:35 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find members of two separate CANDY familes, both from Deptford at around the same time.

Can anyone spot any of the following in the 1851 Census, either in Deptford or elsewhere:

Family Number One:
•THOS. CANDY Christening: 23 MAY 1802 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
WILLM. CANDY Christening: 06 JUL 1806 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
JONATHAN CANDY Christening: 22 JUL 1810 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
•ANN CANDY  Christening: 01 MAR 1812 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
•JOHN ANDREWS CANDAY - Christening: 25 DEC 1815 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
•GEORGE CANDAY  Christening: 05 JUL 1818 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
•CAROLINE CANDAY - Christening: 23 APR 1820 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,  (Possibly married Greenwich Jun Q 1848)
•ELIZTH. CANDAY Christening: 24 NOV 1822 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,

Family Number Two:
•WILLM. HENRY CANDY Christening: 17 APR 1803 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
•CHAS. THOS. Christening: 26 DEC 1804 Saint Paul, Deptford, London, England (Married Margaret and had children in Msx)
•JNO. FRANCIS CANDY Christening: 05 OCT 1806 Saint Paul, Deptford, London,
•MARTHA ELIZTH. CANDY Christening: 14 MAY 1809 Saint Paul, Deptford, London, (living with Sister in Reading, Berks in 1841)

Any help would be much appreciated, as I would like to discover what became of these various paople.

Kind regards and many thanks

Many thanks for these two entries, Nancy. I'm sure they're right; in 1841 Jonathan appeared with his wife Mary and daughter Harriot, aged 5.

As far as William is concerend, it all makes sense, although I can't find a marriage between William CANDY and Jane GABLE.

It would be good to find George as well. I have this entry for him in 1861, so I'm guessing that he's hiding there somewhere in in 1851.

Hi Philip,

I took another look for George and he must be under a transcription error?  Sorry but there are so many George's, without further family members to possibly search, it may be the needle in the haystack.

Thanks for looking Nancy. I had the same experience.

Funnily enough, in 1861 he's shown as a widower, so there must be a marriage in there somewhere as well. Maybe he went away for a while, and then came back to Kent.

I have appreciated your help. Good luck with your own research.

best wishes

Hi Philip

As this is an old request, just wondering if you are still looking for help with locating these CANDYs?
