South Nicholson St Sunderland 1860
« on: Monday 05 March 07 12:58 UTC (UK) »

Hello All
I have a relative who lived at 5 Sourh Nicholson St, Sunderland 1860, I know the location of the street, the problem is this street had its named changed to Tweed St in time for the 1861 Census, I cant find my family on the 1861 Census, but what is odd is that the father John Robson died at 75 Tweed st in Mar 1862, age 57, I think the wifes name was Eleanor she would be around 51 in 1860 and born in Byker.
I got the South Nicholson St Address from the Marriage of John Robson the son I think? age 22 to Eleanor Hall on Jan 15th 1860.
is there anyway I can find out about the family that lived in 5 South Nicholson St in 1860, to confirm my findings

Regards and Thanks

Hi Allan,
In the 1861 Census Tweed Street starts at RG9/3772/73/10 with Robert Mitchinson, born 1800 in Wolviston.
Unfortunately not all of the houses in Tweed Street have the numbers shown. I don't think that there is any way you could find out who was living in a particular house in 1860. The 1858 Directory only has three entries for South Nicholson Street, at numbers 34, 35, and 79.

I couldn't see a no. 5 South Nicholson St, or a no.57 Tweed St in 1861 census, some gaps in the numbering, however there were some Halls at 72 Tweed St. so perhaps John was staying there when he married Eleanor Hall?

The family are elusive aren't they in 1861, I see Armstrong was still around in 1901, thought he'd be easy to find in 1861.........

Hello Barbara
Many thanks for your reply and help. Armstrong Robson was in a Mariner so could have been at Sea in 1861, John was married and Margaret was a Servant, but where were the parents?.

And where was baby Thomas?

I didn't give the Hall's details before as there was no father present, which is the only name you'd get from the marriage cert. (unless mother was a witness)
Sarah Hall  --- mar 58 Mariners wife  Sunderland
Mary Jane Hall dau unm 27                       "

Sorry Allan, too many to choose from, think Mary Jane could have been one of three or so away from home as servants, and Sarah without knowing any children's names too hard to find.  How old was Eleanor Hall when she married John Robson, might find her in 1851

Thanks Barbara
I have Eleanor Hall in 1851, this was a case of both John Robson and Eleanor Hall lying about there ages
John Robson was born 1840 but said he was 22 when he married in 1860, Eleanor Hall was born in 1831 and said she was 26 in 1860.
1861 Census
20 Sussex st Sunderland
John Robson age 23 Seaman born Bishopwearmouth.
Eleanor wife age 26 Born Sunderland
Douglas son age 4 months

John was not 22 when he married he was not born in Bishopwearmouth, have never found his birth Reg or Baptism.
he was aged 1 in 1841 when the family lived in Hetton , he is an odd one.
