« on: Monday 05 March 07 20:54 UTC (UK) »

Hi all, Im looking for any info on the children of the famous Caldbeck huntsman John Peel and his wife Mary White, they are my 6x grandparents.
I know the majority are buried in Caldbeck, Im trying to find out who his kids (13 in total) married, and their families, in Caldbeck. Anyone with info please get in touch.

Matthew

Try this site

http://home.earthlink.net/~gaalli/allisonfamilyhistory.html

George Allison's site about his Allison family from Caldbeck, also has a lot about John Peel as well.

Hi jane,

John Peel is a very interesting man, he is both loved and loathed for his hunting skills.

John had a younger brother called Askew, and it is Askew who is my gggg grandfather. The Peel's, from what I have seen, were well known around Caldbeck and also a naigbouring village of Ireby.

Please PM me with your email address and I can send you some infomration on John Peel and his family. Unfortunately his grave was vandalised by anti hunt protesters but thankfully no real damage was caused. I guess he is still quite a controversial figure...

I am not 100% sure but my Dad said we were related to the Peels by marriage? well its possible Mary Young was a Peel she was born 1 mile from the village that John Peel lived in.  Please send information that would be wonderful.  Mary Young was married to James Young originally from Somerset

Hi Shell and Tracie.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you both re John Peel.

John Peel and Mary White are NOT my 6x gt grandparents, I do not know why I said that they were, so apologies for that too. John Peel is in fact the brother of my 5x great grandfather Askew Peel. Askew was 12 years younger than John. Their parents were William Peel and Lettice Scott.

Shell, just so I can get things straight (I have been off the boards for a few weeks), are you trying to find out if Mary Young's maiden name was Peel? I have no menton of a Mary Young in my Peel line. What makes you think her maiden name was Peel? It would be great if we established that we are related!

Tracie, yu are not allowed to post email addresses on the boards for privacy reasons but  will private message you mine so that you have it. I would love to see photos and share info. Likewise to you to, Shell Smiley

Hello
It is a tentative link at the moment all I know is my Father told me we were related to John Peel the Hunter, now Mary Young (her married name) was from Hesket Newmarket, born in the 19th Century I am not sure if she was a Peel or not I have to dig out a marriage certificate, I understand Hesket Newmarket is about a mile from Caldbeck where John Peel hails from as I carry on tracing the tree more will be revealed! will let you know when I know its possible we might be related
