Looking for George Mills b. 1835/36 Somerset living cardiff occup- Blacksmith.
Wife- Elizabeth nee? b.1835/36 pontypool /monmouth
1881 census living Llandaff.
between 1861 and 1885 11 children.
any help please

I have had a look on the 1861 Glamorgan census but I cannot see a match to your George Mills. The only Somerset born George Mills is this one:

I have them on the 1881 census as the following ..
George Mills aged 45 birth place cardiff on the 1891 census gives birth place as Cheddar .. slightly confused there..

Elizabeth Mills aged 44 b Cardiff 1891 census gives pontypool.
they are the same family due to names ages and places of birth.
1881 census children..

thomas aged 17 b. cardiff
john 15 b cardiff
arthur 13 b. cardiff
gwendoline aged 8 b. cardiff

My Great Great Grandfather was George Mills. b. Shebbear, Devon. He was the Blacksmith who lived in Llystalybont, Cardiff. His son was Stephen Mills was my Great Grandfather. Stephen was the fireman who lived in the Fire House on North Road, Maindy

Stephen had a younger sister Helena Maud Mills b1877 she married William Henry Hodder date 1900
they had son wiliam henry Hodder 1910 who had a daughter who I am friendly with.
Do you have all the info on the Mills family ? If you don't I willing to share info that I have found.
Have the family up to 1911 so did not know that stephen became a fireman.

My Great Grandfather Stephen Arthur Leonard Mills is not listed up there on the 1881 census. I found on FamilySearch.org that he was baptised 7 June 1868 in Llandaff. I guess by 1881 he had left home. The only name I know on the 1881 census you have listed is Gwendoline, my Grandfather's aunty. She was my Great Aunty Gwen who ran a chemist shop in Wembley with her hubby Leslie. Helina is probably Great Aunt Hettie who I met only once. She had a guest house in Douglas, Isle of Man.

I am going to have to call my aunty later to see if she can shed some light on all these names.

In 1861 census family living Cardiff George is a smith they have a daughter Catherine sophia born Neath

WOW! You do know your stuff. I'm well impressed.

I don't understand the West Wales connection (work maybe?). I did come up with some Neath connections ages ago but dismissed it.

Sorry I just realised I wrongly wrote about Gwendoline and Helina. I have no knowledge of either. I was mixing them up with Stephen's children, my grandad's sisters. They were great aunts Flo and Hettie.

That's brilliant thank you. I'd love to know of the Palmer family.

There's absolutely loads of photos of the Mills family. I don't know who has them now. I'll have to ask my aunty.

By the way. A woman wrote an article in the Cardiff Post some years ago. She said she remembered Stephen as the fireman. All the kids used to sing a song called "Here comes Captain Mills" This would have been in the 1920's

THe Neath connection Elizabeth Mills nee; Palmer b Pontypool Monmouth
her parents- George Palmer b Devon mother Catherine Davies m= 29th March 1827 Swansea (This is a possible match)
Catherine b Colwinston Glamorgan
their children this 1851 census
Sophia b1830 dressmaker b pontypool
George b 1834 Pontypool
william 1836 pontypool
elizabeth b 1841
By 1861 George has passed away
Catherine now living with son george in Neath
Catherine in 1871 is a lodger aged 74.
Belive she then came to her daughter Elizabeth and died 1st qtr of 1874 in cardiff
Her Daughter Sohia married William John and he was a curate odf Aberdare in 1871 and in 1881 lived at the vicarage in Cowbridge rd Ely
But sadly in the 2nd qtr of 1873 Sophia passed away , william died between 1891 and 1901 their son trevor became a mason.
The son George did marry and became a manager of a brickworks in brecon I have him up to 1891 but don't see him after that
