That would be wonderful if you could this John Lewin is becoming a real brickwall if i could only tie him in with Elizabeth Spicer in Penn then we would be on to something.
I just looked on the IGI and found 2 marriages for William and Elizabeth William Spicar to Elizabeth Chapman 24th Sep 1789 High Wycombe and William Spicer to Elizabeth Chapman 24th Sep 1786 High Wycombe William born abt 1761 High Wycombe. So which one is correct ? which does make Eliza rather late if she was Christend in 1799 ! so perhaps i have the wrong marriage ?

I would'nt go to far with the Chalfont births. People tended not to move about too much about at that time, Let me have a look at siblings in Wycombe and I'll get back to you.

That is a view i have always held but, have found quite a few of my family moved around an awful lot. and not to places where you would expect, as some of my family where moving to villages from towns, while others were doing the opposite. (but then again are family still does these strange things LOL ) I will hold fire, and see what you do come up with Thank you so much for your help, non of this would be possiable without you.

I am shopping today so will nip in and have a look at HW is fully transcribed so won't need a reader for the Spicer family - siblings and the marriage.
Regrettably I will need a reader to check for John Lewin so will book one today and get back to you.

Booked a reader for Friday so may be able to come up with something for your John Lewin then.
The marriage of William Spicer and Elizabeth Chapman took place 24/9/1786.
William and Elizabeth were quite prolific over the next 21 years. Not unusual at that time. All baptised HW.
William 21/12/1788 Lucey 15/1/1792 Bethia 14/6/1793 Charles 18/2/1795 Lucy 10/9/1797 Elizabeth 2/4/1799 John 7/6/1801 Ann 20/2/1803 Esther 24/3/1805 John 14/6/1807
Looks like they lost two of their children and renamed their new children after them. Again not unusual.

Hi Jo You ar such a star, i really thought i was going to hit a brickwall with the Spicer family. I really cannot thank you enough for what you are doing for me, and i wish i could find the words to say more than thank you. I do hope you can find John Lewin. that i think would really make my week, after having such a bad one.
Yet again thank you so much, and if you ever find family down here Dover or Canterbury area, then just say i will always be glad to help. Ian

The birth you found on the IGI for William Spicer c 1761 is a figment of someones imagination based on the marriage 25 years later in HW. (The births on the IGI which say about should really being ignored I'm afraid)
I checked all the baptisms in HW from 1753 to 1768 and found no William Spicer at all. I did however find Elizabeth Chapmans baptism to Thomas and Bethia 20/10/1765.
A quick look at the actual marriage entry, rather than Phillimores shows that one of the witnesses to William & Elizabeths marriage was Thomas Chapman. It states BOTP
With regard to your John Lewin, not much luck at all. I checked in adjacent parishes of Penn - Little Missenden, Amersham, Beaconsfield, Wooburn H Wycombe and Hughenden. And there were some John Lewins in Hughenden and Amersham but not the correct age. For instance there was a John and Sarah having children in the 1790's in Amersham but not a John and there was a Sarah Lewin wife of John buried in Hughenden in 1737. I am beginning to wonder, if he died before 1841, if he perhaps was a lot older than his wife and was born alot earlier.

Thank you Jo That is a high amount of work you have done, must of taken you ages, and i thank you so much. well at least then we can say that John lewin may or may not be of the parish when he married, perhaps another one of those that was never christend ? and perhaps you be right that the John Lewin i seek may of died earlier. Sadly this will be one of many brickwalls. and one day the answer just may turn up. But thank you for doing all of this for me i cannot thank you enough. You have managed to further my chapmans, which i thought would be another brickwall. So yet again Thank you With the kindest of regards Ian P.S. if at any time i can help you please do say.
