Hmmmm, I wonder.
There is one more child in the family who doesn't appear until 1871. George Davis/Davies born approx 1867.
When I did a search of the 1881 census I found a George born around this time living with his Grandmother on Bernards Hill, St Marys, Bridgnorth. The grandmother was a Charwoman and when I found her in earlier years her other children were Dyers, Wool Corders etc suggesting they worked in the carpet factory.
The family you have picked up sounds like the same family....trade change in family so this could be them. Need to search for more eveidence. Davis/DAvies is a tough one!!
Thanks for that, I will investigate more, could be them???

Hi Tiktok
When Thomas DAVIES married Sarah HOTCHKISS on 4 May 1845 at St Mary's church, Bridgnorth, they were both of full age and bachelor/spinster. Thomas was a Carpet weaver. Within a week, I should be able to get their parents details, if given.
On a 1857 Burgess list, Thomas DAVIES was living at 37 St John's Street, Bridgnorth. In 1843, there was a Thomas DAVIS living at Bernard's Hill.
It seems their 2 day old dau listed on the 1861 census didn't survive. Buried in Bridgnorth Municipal cemetery - Mary Jane DAVIES, age 14 mths, dau of Thomas & Sarah of St John's St. Buried on 5 June 1862. Grave No.2871 Consecrated.
I suspect the George DAVIS, with Grandmother, that you found on the 1881 census IS NOT yours.
Burial on 5 Sept 1876 of George DAVIES, age 10, son of Thomas & Sarah. Grave No.2079 Consecrated.
Burial on 15 Dec 1879 of Sarah DAVIES, age 56, wife of Thomas. Grave No.418 Consecrated.
Burial on 5 June 1889 of Thomas Davies, age 74, Barge builder. Grave No.417 Consecrated.
If I have time, I'll go see if there is a headstone.
Hope it helps, Gwynne Transcribing the Bridgnorth town census and other records. http://www.chadwickg.freeserve.co.uk

Hi Tiktok,
I previously said;
When Thomas DAVIES married Sarah HOTCHKISS on 4 May 1845 at St Mary's church, Bridgnorth, they were both of full age and bachelor/spinster. Thomas was a Carpet weaver. Within a week, I should be able to get their parents details, if given.
Here are the further details.
Thomas's father was Thomas, a Ropemaker. Sarah's father was William, a Carpet weaver. Thomas (Junior) was living in Friars Street. Sarah was living in St. John's Street. Both Bridgnorth. Thomas signed his name. Sarah made her mark. Witnesses were William DAVIES and Eliza HOTCHKISS.
Based on the above and the census, I found this Christening at St. Leonard's church, Bridgnorth. On 19 Aug 1815 ( born 14 Aug ) Thomas, son of Thomas & Marg't DAVIES, Ropemaker of Friars Lane.
