Very very pleased I've just found my Hannah NOON in Belper in 1841 and solved the mystery of Ann Griffin vanishing in 1851. Thank you everyone for your fantastic interest and help on this one. See end of thread should you want details Jan.

Thanks for these. Don't think they are connected but will hang on to them as you never know. Hannah's mother was unmarried, she is Ann Griffin by 1841 census, father unknown. Grandfather was pretty well definitely Thomas but I don't know her grandmother's name. Jan

Hi Janan, I have just started researching Noon in Derbyshire, (Shipley and Ilkeston), and have Ann Noon b. 1825 in Shipley, father is Robert Noon (he owned the Boat Inn and I think he took it over from his father, possibly a John Noon). She married Thomas Marson May 23, 1853, in Cotmanhay, Derbyshire. If you come across any connection in your research, I would love to know. Good luck. Peter.

Hi Peter, I currently have very little on my Noon's. Ann Noon was born circa 1813. Her father is Thomas Noon but I don't know her mother's name. Ann gives her place of birth as Wirksworth on censuses, but there is no parish record of her birth there. The only IGI reference I can find that seems to tally is a christening of an Ann Noon on 13th Oct 1816 in Ilkeston, parents Thomas and Ruth. Her daughter Hannah, my gggrandmother was born in Jan 1827, father unknown- although she gives Thomas as her father on her marriage certificate. Hannah was christened in Horsley in 1829, she gives her place of birth as ? Lane, Horsley, Horsley Woodhouse or Belper. Ann married William Key in 1831 in Ashover and Joseph Griffin in 1839 in Wirksworth. That's it at present. If I find any links with Robert or John I'll let you know. Regards Jan

Hi Sylvia, I don't know whether there is any link, but could well be. Will keep the info incase - am collecting quite a bit of Noon stuff which may link up one day. They are proving tricky as I don't have links with them as Noon's after 1842. Jan (I love the Father Christmas emoticons )

Hi Jan, The following are from the 1841 Census Horsley and Horsley Woodhouse. Think this is yours:- HO 107/188/21 HORSLEY NAME AGE OCCUPATION BORN DERBYSHIRE NOON THOMAS 70 Labourer Yes " ELIZABETH 80 - " " William 45 Cotton Framework Knitter " " Ann 45 " " " " " Samuel 15 " " " " LIVING SAME HOUSE OR NEXT DOOR NOON JOHN 50 Coalman " " Eunice 55 - " " Charlotte 25 - NO " Hannah 15 - Yes BY THE 1851 CENSUS - of the above only John & Eunice are in Horsley with a George aged 37 and a George aged 5. Also a Samuel aged 27 and married. ------------------------------------------------- OTHER NOON'S 1841 CENSUS HORSLEY NOON GEORGE 25 Ag. Labourer Yes --------------------------------------------------- Park Gate, Horsley (Hill?) cannot read surname Abraham 40 Cotton Framework Knitter Yes " Sarah 35 - " NOON PHOEBE 6 " ------------------------------------------ North Side Horsley Woodhouse NOON CHRISTOPHER 35 Nail Maker Yes " MARY 30 - " " RUTH 2 " -------------------------------------------------- Wood Lane, Horsley Woodhouse NOON ROBERT 25 Cotton Framework Knitter Yes " Eliz. 20 " " Marrey ? 20 " " Marry 3 " " Ann l month " --------------------------------------------------- Woodhouse, Horsley Woodhouse NOON JOSEPH 50 Cotton Framework Knitter Yes " Sarah 15 " " Samuel 10 " " Hannah 5 " " Antonette 4 " --------------------------------------------- Woodhouse, Horsley Woodhouse NOON THOMAS 40 Ag. Labourer Yes " RUTH 32 " " JOHN 12 " " ANN 9 " " (AARON? hard to read) 6 (but entered in Female Clmn) " " (Cre? " 3 (MALE) " ------------------------------------------- DO NOT FORGET THAT THE EXACT AGES WERE NOT GIVEN IN THE 1841 CENSUS. IT WORKS LIKE THIS:- UP TO & INCLUDING age 14 exact age given 15 but under 20 age 15 stated 20 but under 25 " 20 Stated 25 but under 30 " 25 stated etc. etc.
Hope this helps Spendlove.

Hi Spendlove, Thanks everso for that info, really kind of you to search it out so near to Christmas. Sadly I am now further confused . Unfortunately there is another Hannah Noon born 1824, parents John and Eunice - appears to be that one you've found . It at least I now know she wasn't in Horsley! I am as certain as I can be that my Hannah was born in 1827 so would (with luck) have been listed as 14, she is consistent about her age on all other censuses. Her mother Ann gives her father as Thomas, when as Ann Kay (or Key) she marries Joseph Griffin, but in 1841 she is probably about 28 (age varies on censuses) so the older Thomas looks too old and the younger one too young- I already had those two marked as likely candidates but didn't know their ages. Now I'm wondering if Hannah was following in her mother's footsteps by giving a fictitious father. Regards and many thanks, Jan
