...so many "trees" - what's a dog to do!

Glinger Bank Auxilliary hospital WW1 ?
« on: Monday 12 March 07 15:26 GMT (UK) »

Can anyone tell me about Glinger Bank Auxilliary hospital?

I have been loaned an old autograph book in which my Grandfather, Joseph Edward Beattie, made some pen and ink drawings dated 1918, together with the inscription of the above address, at Longtown. (near Carlisle?)

I have no idea why he was there or for how long (there has never been any mention in the family of him attending a hospital after his return from France and his time in the trenches) although he did receive a small shrapnel wound to the face.

I'm having trouble tracking down much information about Glinger Bank (not even sure if it was all one word!)  I'm assuming it may have been a large house converted as a recouperation hospital, or even a temporary camp under canvas so I'd be pleased if anyone can shed some light on it!

Can't seem to attach a pic to this message at the moment - will try again later!

There seems to be next to nothing there-

Nor was there in 1868-
