tramways and brickworks
« on: Friday 26 November 04 14:59 GMT (UK) »

Please does anyone know where we can get information on the history of the early Sheffield Tramways.  Also we want information on Sheffield Brickworks, particularly Darlow Brothers in the late 1800's

Many thanks

Hi Cynda,

Google is usually good for a "first look"

"sheffield tramways" brought up several sites that could be useful

"sheffield brickworks" also.

As you know more precisely what you are seeking, have a look ...

"sheffield darlow brothers" brought up 124 entries.

including an entry from "Access to Archives":
South Yorkshire County Records  Sheffield Archives: Darlow family [1876-1895]
at: http://www.a2a.org.uk/about/catalogues/new0409.asp

This could be your family, as an archive entry entry indicates they had some importance at the time, and a Brickworks owner would be important !

hope this helps.

Many thanks for your reply.  Have just spent a very interesting time looking through all the catalogue references.  Naturally I got off the subject of Darlows and tramways and was finding things of interest on all sorts of other things!  Will get back on track now.
