angus, montrose
« on: Saturday 05 December 09 08:32 UTC (UK) »

hi there everyone, anyone interested in the bairds from Montrose.  Father was Alexander and mother was Ann Clark (dau. of John Clark and Catherine Beattie.  Alexander was a  blacksmith.  Known children, John Baird married Mary Campbell Marquis, daughter of John Marquis (c/b spelt Markess) and Mary Knight.))  They had a son Joseph Baird as well as, John, Alexander,  Robert Johnston, James Ferrier, Hugh, Mary, Ann-Clark, Euphemia (c. 1851); Elizabeth.  Joseph married Isabella Hird who had various children, one of them being James Findlay Baird who married Elizabeth McFadyen McTavish (originally spelt McPhaden, Isle of Mull).  Elizabeth's parents were Duncan McTavish son of Duncan McTavish of Oban, Argyll and Catherine Hunter (from Patrick Hunter and Marion Buchanan, Anderston/Partick, Glasgow).  Interestingly, Patrick and Marion both died from fractures to the skull and their son. William Hunter was informant on the death certificates.  There is also reference to Robert McLahlan and Nany MacVicar from Kilfinanl, Dougald Ferguson and Catherine (McLachlan) Ferguson.  Along the lines Duncan McTavish Senior before he married Elizabeth McPhaden (daughter of Charles McFadyen (son of Martin McPhaden and Marrion McKinnon) was married to a Catherine McPhaile, sister of James McPhaile both McPhailes born in Oban.  We also have reference to Carmichael's of Oban.

Hi,
Yes, I'm very interested in the Bairds of Montrose.

My G-G-Grandmother was a Jane Baird, daughter of John Baird & Susan Taylor according to her death certificate of 26/12/1876.  John was described as a green grocer (deceased), but Susan is not described as deceased. I've looked on scotlands people for any indication of Jane's birth, but didn't find anything. Her age was given as 57 on her death cert, so she must have been born about 1819.

Jane married Alexander Dunn, a hairdresser, on 2/2/1845 and hed several children - Alexander, Susan, Jane (my G-Grandmother), Eliza, Georgina, Jessie and Mary. I can't find out what happened to Alexander Dunn - See my post in this forum. There is a death for an Alexander Dunn in Montrose, but it's a different one.

Any information you can give me on the Bairds would be much appreciated.

Hi Sarah,
Looks like we are on different Baird trees, but we might find a connection some day.

Thanks anyway
