BEASLEY of Wooburn
« on: Wednesday 14 March 07 23:10 UTC (UK) »

I cannot find the marriage of James Beasley (Beesley) b. 1814 to Mary Ann  b. 1817 on BMD.
In 1841 I have them with daughter Ann (Sarah Ann) aged 2 months in Flackwell Heath. In later census Mary Ann gives her place of birth as Wooburn ( I have all census entries). Could someone with access to Parish Records please check for a marriage for me ? I would appreciate this.

best wishes, Fairlane

Firstly, did you use the full index or incomplete one(s)..
Full index:

I'd recommend obtaining the childs birth certificate to give the maiden name.

There are no marriages for James Beasley/Beesley 1832 to 1841 in Wooburn.

Though there are two Beesley marriages in 1836 in Wooburn - Sarah Beesley to John Sparks and Joseph Beesley  to Elizabeth Lewington.

Looked for Flackwell Heath but did not realise that it was actually Wycombe. I will put it on my list for next Wednesday.

Hello PaulineJ and Lincslass

Thanks for your help. I have searched the full index for Beasley and Beesley and am presently looking for Beezley, Beazley etc. I haven't yet found a likely one and thought the marriage was possibly pre 1837 if only just.

Lincslass - I really appreciate the offer of a lookup next week if it isn't too time consuming for you. James gives his place of birth in some census as Little Marton so they were both fairly local to one another.

I have checked High Wycombe, West Wycombe, Great Marlow and Beaconsfield too.

There is a marriage of James Besley and Mary Ann Heath, both from Flackwell Heath, in Little Marlow. James was a worker at Paper mill. Banns were read 19th & 26th May and 2nd June 1839. (Believe it or not I forgot to write down the date of the marriage. Doh) Fathers were Benjamin Besley labourer and William Heath cordwainer. Witnesses were William and Martha Heath.

The marriage is on FreeBMD too. I don't know whether this is yours but worth getting one of the birth certs me thinks.

Jo,

Many, many thanks - I feel sure that this is worth getting a child's birth cert for. James on a later census is a worker in the paper mill. Just shows how many variations on a name there can be! I really appreciate your hard work.

An update - thanks to help from Jo - I now have the birth certificate of Mary Ann and the marriage certificate of James Besley and Mary Ann Heath.

I'm now trying to go a little further back so if anyone has any spare time at the R.O. I would appreciate a lookup at Little Marlow for the baptism of James Beasley (Besley) c. 1814 and the marriage of Benjamin Beasley and Mary ? (b.1789 from census) - probably between 1805 and 1814). I have just purchased the BVRI cd but Little Marlow is not on it.

Best wishes, Fairlane

I am assuming you mean the birth certs for Ann (Sarah Ann) which proves the Mary Ann Heath is the correct one.

All the cenuses say James was born Wooburn. I didn't look for James baptism in Wooburn, just the marriage but the fact that they married in Little Marlow suggests that it was perhaps her residence rather than James birth even though the Censuses vary. (All this ditto is a pain to check) And of course they moves parishes from birth to marriage.

I will have  look next time I go which should be mid week.

Hi Jo
Sorry, didn't make myself very clear. I actually got the birth cert for my 3xgrandmother Mary Ann Beasley (sister to Sarah Ann) which was a bonus - I couldn't find her on BMD indexes but Bucks Register Office searched and found her. I also purchased the marriage cert for James and Mary Ann Heath as you kindly gave me the church and date.

I agree James gives his place of birth as Wooburn but please don't spend too much of your time searching round the parishes - Wooburn for James's baptism and Little Marlow for the marriage of Benjamin and Mary would be great.

I have spent days rather than hours in Chester R.O. searching for the marriage of my 4xgreat grandparents widening the search out from where I know their children were born. Unfortunately he died in 1838 so I don't even know if he was born in county and John Edwards and Mary on the Wales, Shropshire, Cheshire borders ain't an easy task!

Thanks again,

Hello Fairlane,

Hope I'm not butting in here but I found a James BEESLEY son of James and Margaret BEESLEY, gardener - 6th August 1815 All Saints Parish Church, Great Marlow - any good?

You don't have a Comfort amongst your Beasleys do you?

Hello Anyas

Don't mind you butting in at all! My James's father was Benjamin but thanks for your contribution - I'm sure they're all related in some way. Sorry, no Comforts so far but I'll keep a look out.

Hello Fairlane,

I should have read your earlier posts more thoroughly!

There are BEESLEYS in the High Wycombe Wesleyan Methodist Circuit Baptism records.  I think one may show a daughter of your James and Mary Ann - would this be of any help?

Hello Anyas,

I was just looking for some different information when the Comfort Beazley struck a chord.

I have a record of a Comfort Beazley marriage to Solomon Ridgerley on 29th July 1863 in Chepping Wycombe Parish Church.  They are both widowed.  They also do not have any father's details on the certificate.

Regards

Karen

Hello Anyas

Yes definitely, although they married in church and my ggggrandmother, Mary Ann Beasley was married in church, it is quite possible that they tried another religion at some stage. I haven't yet looked for any baptisms of the children as they're not on IGI.

Hello Karen,

The Solomon Ridgley (various spellings) you mention is in my family tree.  The reason I asked about Comfort is that I wondered whether Fairlane was researching the same branch of Beasleys.  I was aware of the marriage but didn't have the detail you have kindly given.  Thank you, every little bit of information makes the puzzle a little more complete.
