Herts Burials pre 1800 COMPLETED thanks
« on: Sunday 01 March 09 20:51 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know if there are any records of burials in Herts pre 1800 transcribed/recorded - or is it a case of ordering each film of each parish register from LDS? NBI doesn't have them and OPC doesn't appear to be available for Herts either.  Sad

I know the IGI has partial records of Baptisms and herts-online has most marriages on their website but I am having trouble finding any early burials at the moment.

Thanks

Di

Hi Di

I don't know of any online or commercial databases, but HALS have transcribed some parishes' bmds including some pre 1800 burials.

http://www.hertsdirect.org/libsleisure/heritage1/HALS/famhist/parregs/trans/

As you not UK based you are not really in a position to avail yourself of these, but if a particular parish that you are interested in has been transcribed by HALS, then perhaps the lovely Peter or another regular vistor would check for you.  However, if you need a blanket search it may be that you will need to order the films from the LDS.

There are a number of parishes which have their own sites on-line.  For example:

Preston (not much prior to 1800)

Pirton

Thanks Rick and David

I was hoping that someone may have heard of a rumour that FMP/NBI may be putting all the early Herts records on their site - at some stage (wishful thinking on my part!!).

I'm looking at lots of Parishes in the north at the moment and keep ordering films - but hoped for an easy way out  Roll Eyes

Oh well, looks like it's the long road  Wink

(I know that the lovely, kind and generous Peter would help where he can but don't like to bother him )

Thanks for your help

Hi Di,

I searched the Wyddial PRs but regret no trace of marriage or burials for the CROUCH family.
At Layston however, I found two Crouch burials for Thomas but none for Ann, neither was there an entry for the marriage.
28Mar1701  Mr.Thomas CROUCH gent was burried.
Between 12Nov1707 and 02Jan1708 Thomas s/o the late Captain Crouch.

Hope this helps.

Regards from the Lovely Peter

Hi Lovely Peter,

Thanks so much for checking Wyddial and Layston PR's. Looks like the Thomas who was buried 1701 must be my guy. Don't know who the second one was but certainly worth further investigation.

Many thanks for your help

Take care

Di
