CHAPPLES of Devon
« on: Saturday 27 November 04 11:16 UTC (UK) »

Does anybody out there have any history of the Chapple's of South Molton?  We have gone cold with William Chapple b about 1702 - part of a long line of Williams.

Hi,

Have you tried the museum in South Molton? The man in there has a avid interest in all things Molton and there is also another man he can put you in touch with who is very knowledgable about South Moltons history.

Alas dear Debbie, it is a little hard to 'try' the Museum in South Molton from Sydney, Australia  Undecided
I will link up with your other suggestion though.
By the way, I was born in Woolwich & grew up in Eltham before coming to Oz.

Hi,

I wonder if that is further back from my research.

I recently traced back to William Chapple born about 1768 in South Molton. He married Mary Davy born about 1770 on 23rd Sept 1793 also South Molton. I think he would be my g g g g g grandfather.

I'm looking for Lizzie Chapple - she was a cousin to my Grandmother (Winifred Amy Phillips).  Surnames connected to Lizzie would be Phillips or Butler.  My Grandmother was born in Newton Abbot, Devon so I am assuming that Lizzie and her family were from the same area.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have been researching my Chapple line in and around South Devon, particularly Totnes/Denbury/Newton Abbot area. I just wondered if you had any information about any Chapples living around that area?

Hi

I would be very interested if you have or come across a Phillips or a Butler who married a Chapple  and had a daughter named Elizabeth.

I am trying to find out exactly how my Grandmother's cousin Lizzie Chapple fits into either the Butler or the Phillips family tree.

My Grandmother Winifred Amy Phillips was born in Newton Abott - her mother was a Butler.

Any help appreciated.

Is there any connection between any of these Devon CHAPPLEs and the Samuel CHAPPELL who founded the famous Bond Street music shop in 1811?

There were at least two other piano-makers who set themselves up in London in the first half of the nineteenth century but who had started life as carpenters in Devon.  And so, I just wondered, if he set the trend.

Hi

I must admit that I have not not come across Butler or Phillips. Which date are we talking about?

I do know that my great grandfather Herbert Philip Chapple B:1892, was one of 7 children, who were, Mary, Susan Ethel, Margeretta Jane,  John & George (Twins) and Emily. Their parents were George Chapple b 1824, married Susanna Grant.

I cannot seem to get back beyond George, but am off to the Devon records office tomorrow so may have some more information. Perhaps George's brothers and sisters are the connection.

Hi

My Grandmother was born in 1896 so I am assuming that Lizzie Chapple was around the same age give or take a few years.

Will have a look through the info that I have on the Butlers and Phillips and see if any of the names you mentioned tie in.

Cheers

I am looking for information about the family of Thomas Chapple, born 5 January 1774, Bishops Nympton, Devon., married to Mary (?)  Their daughter, Mary Chapple, born 28 April 1797 at Bishops Nympton married William Hill ( born Ashreigney)

I believe Thomas Chapple's parents may have been John Chapple and Elizabeth(?) both of Bishops Nympton

Any information about this family would be appreciated!

Bishops Nympton has a host of Chapple's, none of the recent queries are mine as far as I know.
