Hello, Yet more help needed! Iam searching for any info on my gg grandfather, George Aldridge. He was born abt 1847 (although I don't know where) and he married Sarah Williamson on 8/2/1879 in Durham register office. He states that his age is 32, he is a widower and his father was George Aldridge a gamekeeper. George himself is a 'rollyman' and he is living a 169 Gilesgate, the same address as Sarah. Their first child, Sarah Ann, was born in Kensington on 30/12/1879 and George was then a horsekeeper. By 1881 Sarah and Sarah Ann are back in Durham City living at 3 Burdens Yard. Although Sarah is listed as the head of the family she is also still married, although George is not with them. In 1891 she is still in Durham living at 4 Gilesgate with another two children, William born abt 1887 and Mary E born 1891 although she is now a widow. She does not re-marry and herself and her three children are still living in Durham, this time 25 Bells Villa in 1901. Can anybody find George prior to his marriage or know this family, again any help most appreciated!
Sue

Hi Sue,
There isn't an abundance of people by this name and age - I was wondering if this could be a possibility?
1851 census: HO107/2403, folio 125, page 48
Durham, Whickham, Swalwell
Mary Aldridge h. widow, 64, At home, b. Durham, Whickham Mary, dau. unm. 19, At home, b. Durham, Whickham Thomas, son, 14, Scholar George, son 3
I will see if I can find this family in 1841 .. ..
Kind regards
Pels

No help whatsoever I'm afraid with regard to the name of the husband:
1841 census: HO107/302/13, folio 15, page 24
Durham, Whickham, Smalwell
John Aldridge, 20, Blacksmith Mary, 50, Washerwoman Ann, 20 Mary, 10 Thomas, 5
All born in county
Looking at the 1851 census it is quite obvious that Mary, age 64 isn't the mother of George .. therefore it makes me wonder whether the father would have been named anyway?
