Could someone please provide me with the details of the five CANDYs in Sussex in the 1851 Census?
I am especially interested in John Candy and his wife Mary Ann in Littlehampton. Also their sons Henry and John, who were born in 1833 and 1830 respectively.
I note that there is someone named Joseph Candy (born about 1801) in Sussex, and would be very keen to know whose household he was in, and where he came from.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Philip Candy

Many thanks for this very quick lookup. Is it possible that John's place of birth is Frome rather than Thorpe, since that would fit with his census entry in 1861?
Many thanks

Thanks you so much for these very quick and helpful lookups.
It looks as if John Henry Candy, a surgeon, was born in Somerset, married in Arundel in Sussex in 1828, and had two sons, both of whom attended university.
At least one of them, Henry Houston Candy, became a Church of England minister.
If anyone else is researching this family, I suspect that the middle name Houston is a link back to Mary Houston who married Robert Candy in Frome in Somerset, and therefore I suspect that John Henry Candy was a (previously unknown) member of Robert's and Mary's family.
Kind regards and many thanks
Philip Candy
