Hi,
I am looking for information please about the parents and siblings of Michael Rossiter/Roster? born circa 1862 in Shrewsbury.
His parents were Michael Rossiter and Bridget Larkin but I have no other details about them other than they were born in Ireland.
Michael ( the son) married Bridget ( maiden name unknown). Michael had a brother William also born Shrewsbury circa 1864.
William married Eliza (maiden name unknown) and had a son Leonard born 1904 in Nottingham.
Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.
Best wishes

Hi Mike,
Many thanks for that.
I assume from the son John Brace that Bridget may have been married before. Or possibly that Brace is her maiden name.
Best wishes

Can't think where they've got to in 1891. The only one I've found so far is William.
1891 - RG12, piece 2693, folio 36, p 14. 3 Melbourne Square, Nottingham North East, St Mary, Nottinghamshire.
William Barks, Head, Widower, 65, occupation? - can't read, b. Bobbers Mill, Staffs. William Rossiter, Son-in-law, M, 27, Plasterer, b. Shrewsbury. Eliza A Rossiter, Wife (should be daughter?), 23, b. St Mary's, Notts. William Rossiter, Grandson, 2, b. St Mary's, Notts. Thomas Rossiter, Grandson, 1, b. St Mary's, Notts. Herbert Rossiter, Grandson, 5 days, b. St Mary's, Notts.
Marriage: William Rossiter and Eliza Ann Barks, Jun qr 1888, Nottingham, 7b - 503.

Hi Monica,
For the sake of completeness, is it possible to check the 1901 Census for additional children born to William and Eliza Ann Barks please? I know they had a son Leonard in 1904 but need to know which other children exist between Leonard and the last child listed in your 1891 post please.
Also is it possible to check the 1861 census to find John Simeon with his parents please. I'm trying to find his father's name and if possible to find Bridgets maiden name and her date and place of marriage.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
Best wishes

Another three children by 1901 -
1901 - RG13, piece 3174, folio 54, p 31. 14 Hartwell Street, Nottingham North East, Nottingham.
All Rossiter. William, Head, M, 37, Plasterer, b. Shrewsbury. Eliza A, Wife, M, 33, Laceworker at home, b. Nottingham. William, Son, 12, b. Nottingham. Thomas, Son, 11, b. Nottingham. Herbert, Son, 10, b. Nottingham. Kate, Daughter, 8, b. Nottingham. Joseph, Son, 5, b. Nottingham. Mary, Daughter, 3, b. Nottingham.
There could be another one or two between Mary and Leonard in 1904. Have you got access to the BMD images for that period?

Mike posted the 1861 info earlier but I had a look for the marriage:
Michael Roster and Bridget Brace, Sep qr 1860, Shrewsbury, Vol 6a, p 1018.
You'll need to get the certificate to see whether Bridget was single or a widow. These ten year gaps between censuses are just too long!

Hi Monica,
Thanks for that.
I wish the government would free up all the census information up to the present day. It would make genealogy so much easier. Might help National Security too knowing which genuine Brits were descended from whom.
It's a wise child that knows its parents!! LOL
Best wishes

Hi rcuser,
I've been trying to find another way to get some of the info you want. This is all speculation - you'd need to confirm/refute it with certificates or parish look-ups.
I had a look at the Brace name in Shrewsbury in 1851 and there's only one family. There's a marriage for one of the sons: Philip Brace, Jun qr 1854, Shrewsbury, 6a - 1259 (John Simeon Brace's birth was Mar qr 1855). Frustratingly, there are only three names on the page: two were married in Oswestry, and Philip married in Shrewsbury. The missing woman may well be Bridget. So close to confirming her maiden name!
There's a death for a Phillip: Phillip Peter Brace, Dec qr 1855, Shrewsbury, 6a - 399. I've found the rest of the family in the 1861 census but not Phillip, so it looks like the same one.
Then I remembered you've got Michael's parents down as Michael Rossiter/Roster and Bridget Larkin. Where did you get the Larkin name from?
Also I had look at the 1871 and there are another five lodgers on the next page. How did Bridget cope? Five children under ten and seven lodgers in the house! They were living in Infant School Passage in the St Chad's area of Shrewsbury and I don't think it would have been a big house.
Don't know if any of that is any help but it's given me a good reason not to do the ironing!
Monica

Hi Monica,
Thanks for that and for giving up the ironing to help me!!
The information I had was gained in part from Familysearch .org and from Ancestry.com.
Like you I found the marriage but the information is not there nor on Familysearch or on Ancestry.
Michael's parents were from Ireland. He and his siblings were born in Shrewsbury. Bridget probably came from a large family herself and was used to helping her mother to care for the masses.
Wonder if it is on the British Vital records Index? What do you think?
Best wishes

Hi Monica,
Philip Brace was the son of Philip Brace & Anna ( Hannah?) Davies married in 1827.
Here's a link I found on the Familysearch site:- http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=500032261359&lds=1®ion=2®ionfriendly=British+Isles&frompage=99
Trying to see if I can find the marriage using lateral thinking.
Best wishes
