A deeper & deeper hole
« on: Sunday 25 March 07 07:02 BST (UK) »

Could someone please help me, as the subject heading says it all!
I was told one of my family went to South Africa to live.  He was was born in 1866 in Western Australia and served in the Boer War, so I took notice of things that had been written for other people and called up NASA.
I put the name Godfrey Moore and got the following:
Ref 4762/57
part 1
Description     JACOBS, MARIA PETRONELLA. BORN VORSTER.
                       FORMERLY MOORE
starting
Logged

Moore (Cranbrook) & French (Sussex) 1750-1850 and onwards.
Roper (1810 onwards)  & Trotter (1700's onwards)(Northern Ireland & Scotland).
Flaherty (Ireland) 1791/2 onwards
Carroll (Ireland)
Fidler (Denton, Lancashire)
Cooper (Southwark, London)
All to the lucky country.

and the hole gets deeper....

ending   19570000
remarks   SURVIVING SPOUSE PETRUS JOHANNES FRANCOIS
                JACOBS. PREDECEASED SPOUSE GODFREY        MOORE.

What I would like to find out is where, when and the date Godfrey married her and where, when and the date he died, but as I said I am getting myself more and mopre mixed up.

Hi Bev

The reference you found is the estate file for his wife, Maria Petronella JACOBS, formerley MOORE born VORSTER.  She married the Jacobs chap after Godfrey died.

The only way to see if the information you are looking for, which may or may not be on her Death Notice depending on how accurately it was completed, is to actually get your hands on the document.   With any luck, the date Godfrey died will be recorded as well as any children they may have had.  I doubt very much that the date they married will be on the Death Notice as it is not a question that is asked.

There is a very comprehensive Vorster website - www.vorster.net - but there is no Godfrey MOORE in the name list.  I do see a Maria Petronella MOORE which may well be their daughter although she is not linked to any parent.

Was Godfrey you man's full name?  If not, the only other reference on NAAIRS which may be of use is for Arthur Godfrey MOORE who died in 1900.  If this is the case then the "daughter" above is not theirs as she was born in 1925!

I suggest you order the Death Notice and see what is on it.

Regards
Moira

Thanks Moira,
I will look through all the information you gave me and perhaps something will jump out at me!  He's an elusive little beggar isn't he?
Kind regards
Bev
