1841 & 1851 look-up, Ralph Brown
« on: Saturday 31 March 07 18:03 BST (UK) »

Please could someone help me find Ralph Brown in 1841 and 1851?

He was born c. 1823, and in all later censuses gives his birthplace as Shotley Bridge.

In 1861 he was living at Baxton Burn in Benfieldside and his occupation was a wood sawyer.

Any help most appreciated.

In 1841 there is a Ralph Brown in Shotley Bridge

George Brown Head Mar 40 Shoemaker born in county
Margaret  45
John  20 Shoemaker
Ralph 15 Shoemaker
Mary 15
William 10
George 5
Henry 1

all born in county

1851 HO107/2389 Folio 248 page 51

George Brown Head Mar 53  Shoemaker emp 2 men  b Benfieldside
Margaret  wife 56 b Ebchester, Durham
John     son  33  Journeyman shoemaker b. Ebchester
Ralph    son  30      "                                 b. Benfieldside
Nicholas son  25    Sadler                         b.    "
William Oley Brown 20  Mason                  b.    "

These look interesting as two of Ralph's children are George and Margaret although he would seem to have changed jobs.
