I am hoping that someone lives nearby, or passes near to, this street, as I'm interested in getting a piccie of a house known in 1901 as "Chelmer", on Lion Gate Gardens. The census lists a number of named houses (including Chelmer), followed by No. 16 and then 14 Lion Gate Gdns. Either side of "Chelmer" are "Charterhouse" and "Avoca".
Thank you!

Hi Prue
We went to see the twins today, aahh so cute!!
We took the camera but the weather was foul, London hasn't had rain for the best part of a month but we got it today. Had hoped for a nice walk in Kew Gardens but that didn't happen.
Anyway, we didn't take any piccies because a) it was chucking it down and b) the houses have lost their names over the years and may have been rebuilt/renumbered in the meantime. However I found these on the internet, on property sales/letting sites, looks like they were taken when the sun was shining . All the houses are virtually identical, 3 stories, triangular arch over the porch, mainly plain brick but some have been painted over.
and there's a link here but being down-under may not mean anything to you but to the bereaved over here it sometimes does.

In the meantime I'll do a bit more research and have a look at the enumerators walk on the 1901 and see what I can find out.
Dawn

Oh, thank you so much Dawn for going to all that trouble Sorry about the weather - could you send some of the rain over this way? Dry as a bone here
The photos are great, thanks...maybe they are the same houses as in 1901, if there are three identical ones - in the census, there were the three named houses amongst the numbered ones. How fascinating to find that reference to Charter House on the Cruse website! Don't you just love the internet??
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Prue,
'Named' houses have gone out of fashion here over the least 20yrs or so. Our current house had a name when we brought it, but we reverted to just the number...
Re: weather...it has rained without pause for 2/3 days here now...& the forecast for the week is 'wet, wet, and wetter...:-)'

Hi Prue
Just wondering what your interest is in Chelmer Lion Gate. My great aunt apparently lived there around 1905. She was Wilhelmina INGRAM nee STROMEYER

Hi Paul
I'm excited!!! Another INGRAM rellie!!!!! We are few and far between, believe me.
Wilhelmina STROMEYER married my g-g-grandfather's brother, Alfred INGRAM. My g-g-grandfather was Edward Charles INGRAM.
I've got plenty on the INGRAMs and a little bit on Wilhelmina and her family if you're interested - are you descended from a sibling of hers?
Great to hear from you!

Dear PrueT
That was quick!
Yes my mother remembers visiting her aunt Mina, and I know now what I din't know last week, that she married Alfred Ingram. So looks like we are connected.
I have just discovered the Ingram connection via the fact that they were both witnesses to Mina's father's will. So far I know nothing else about the Ingrams but my mother tells me that Mina later ended up in the Vintners Almshouses in the East End, and she visited her there. She may have died before the war ie in the thirties.
I would love to exchange what I know of the Stromeyers with you, they are my direct line. And to know more about the Ingrams - where they came from and where they are now . . .
Regards
Paul

Hi again Paul
Wow, your mum can remember Mina - I don't suppose she remembers Alfred too? I will send you a PM with my email address in it, if you then email me, I'll send you some family tree info and see what you have already etc.
There's another Ingram cousin on Rootschat - Cal241 - her grandfather and my great-grandmother were children of Alfred Ingram's brother Edward. Prue
