The ScotlandsPeople online index of births only covers the period 1855 to 1906.  For births after that date you would have to visit or have someone visit Register House, Edinburgh.

Hi Caronine

Alternatively, you can order the birth cert -  have a look at this link here on RootsChat: www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,193879.0.html

Parents' marriage will probably be available on Scotlands People (cut off date is 1931 for that type of event). I did a quick search and there are only two Ballingal marriages after 1900-1931, none in Argyll.

Regards.

I am really struggling to find a marriage hre1 I have found the birth of Alexander cameron Ballingal in 1878 in Bowmore/Kilarrow. I also have a mrriage cert fgor his daughter Sheila cameron Ballingal who, according to the m/cert in 1945, was born c 1917. At the moment I can find no marriage for Sheila's parents in either Scotland or England records. all I can find is Robert Rennie Ballingal, born in the same area in 1867 and at school in Cheltenham in 1881 and married in London in 1895. Could this have been Alexander's brother?
What else do you sugges?

Assuming that Sheila was born in Scotland, her birth certificate will give the date and place of her parents marriage.

Caroline

Robert Rennie Bannigal's birth is showing in Edinburgh not Argyll:

ROBERT RENNIE BALLINGAL  Birth:  09 JUN 1867     Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Parents: Father: ROBERT BALLINGAL Mother: ANNA MACLEAN

Do these parents match those of Alexander b. 1878?

Mary Cameron, Annie's mother's will might provide some additional info on the family. From SP's Wills & Testaments:

Good and bad news  Undecided  I found Alexander's death entry on SP which is great except it is on the marine register. As such, not available to view on line and has to be ordered.

Sheila married a Mr Pitman at some point as she was a widow aged 28 when she remarried in chelsea in 1945 so I guess Mr Pitman was in the forces and a casualty of WW2 but I cannot find this marriage either in English records - anything in Scottish listings?

I really appreciate all the help that everyone has come up ith so quickly! Truly amazing!
Caroline

I have now found the marriage of Sheila Cameron Ballingal to leslie C Pitman in Q4 1939 in Chelsea.
