Hello All I have posted the above a few times and the mystery is still not solved. I am trying to find the mother of my gt,gt, Grandfather John Robson he is a mystery. when he married in Jan 1860 he says he was 22 Years old and a Seaman on his wedding certifcate he said his father was John Robson a Joiner by trade. 1861 Census 20 Sussex St Sunderland John Robson age 23 Seaman, Born Bishopwearmouth Eleanor wife age 26 born Sunderland Douglas age 4 months born Sunderland John died in May 1865 aged 26 as a result of an Acccident, I checked the parish records hoping family members may be mentioned none were and his age was given as 25. I have checked all the John Robson Regsitrations in Durham and Northumberland and there is no John Robson registered whose father was a Joiner, there is a John Robson born 1838 in Sunderland his father was called John but he was a Bottlemaker. I have also checked the Baptisms at Sunderland and nearby Hetton and Houghton but no luck, is it possible a child was neither Registered or Baptised. without either I can never be sure if I can go back any further.
Maybe someone has idea's on this.
Regards Allan Robson

Allen This, of course, doesn't help you to pin him down but..
have you considered that John's father may have changed trades in John's lifetime. I have an ancestor who has a different job in each census and on his marriage cert.

Hello Thanks for your reply, I have thought about this and it is possible but I would have thought a Joiner being a skilled trade, there would be plenty of work available. the only family I can find that seem to fit are as follows 1851 Census 20 Neasham Sq Sunderland John Robson age 46 born Corbridge Engine Wright Eleanor age 41 Born Byker John aged 11 born Sunderland Margaret aged 10 born Sunderland (Hetton-le-Hole) Armstrong age 8 born Hetton I could not find John aged 11 his birth Reg or Baptism, but I found Margaret who was born in Hetton Oct 1841 her father was John Robson a Joiner, then found Armstrong Robson born Sept 1843 again father John Robson Joiner. I also found Baptisms of Earlier Children Robert Born 1827 Mary Ann 1831 Elizabeth 1833 Douglas 1835. So it could be this family?. I think an Engine Wright made the wooden platforms for Machinery

Hello Andrea I have the newspaper articles and the inquest but no family mentioned, john had 3 Children Douglas born Dec 1860 Eleanor Jane 1863 died 1872 John 1865 died 1874
even the up todate relatives no nothing about him. John's wife was called Eleanor her mother was Jane, as for Douglas I have a feeling it could after his brother Douglas born 1835 who also a mariner and may have died at sea, but its all if's and buts.

Hello Allan!
It was a really good chat show on the radio in Newcastle, and the presenter was called Al(l)an Robson. Just thought you might be him - I´ve never emailed or chatted online to anyone famous before!
I´ve had trouble tracking down ancestors cos they change the spellings of their names and their dates of birth on censuses. I wonder if it was because they couldn´t read or write, so the enumerators filled in the census forms for them, with mistakes occasionally being made while being written down. Or perhaps they had things to hide, so changed spellings, dates and locations for that reason. Just a theory.
Best wishes,
Aunt Sally

Hello Thanks for your reply and advice, I played in a band in Liverpool during the 1960's but never made the grade, it was in those wonderful days of Merseybeat.

Hello Allan,
Don´t worry about not making the grade. Playing in a band in the 60s in Liverpool is a great memory for you to have, and an achievement in itself. Good luck with your searching. I hope you can solve the John Robson mystery.
Best wishes,
Aunt Sally

What about trying a search for Jack Robson - Johns were sometimes known as Jack too. Try varying the spelling of Robson. I´d been looking for ages for my gt gt grandfather Daniel Morby. I changed the spelling when I was searching to Morebey and lo and behold I found him in the 1841 census - as Dannell Morebey!!! The name was obviously written as it was pronounced. Give it a go, you might come up trumps.
Best wishes,
Sally

Hello Joe Nothing famous just among the 300 or so bands in Liverpool at that time, we used to play the local Halls and clubs and music was Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Everleys and of course we played Beatle Songs. I am a Lead Guitarist and love the good ole Rock'n'Roll.
