Times Digital Archive
« on: Wednesday 04 April 07 15:05 BST (UK) »

Hi

In case anyone doesn't know, the Times digital archive is available to Bracknell library members
The temporary card you get when you join won't do , it has to be the proper
'Edge' card.

It is available via a link on the Library website, the Edge number gives you access

I think it is available to anyone with a library card.  Certainly I can use my Hampshire CC library card and Manchester Central Library card to access it.

Go to the Bedfordshire Libraries website, follow the link to the virtual library, where you can join the library online.  No visits to a library with ID required!

Instant, free, permanent access to the Times Digital Archive.

Brill.

I've just tried to access the virtual library but have discovered that the access has been altered and you now do have to visit a Bedfordshire library to become a member. Oh well, it was great while it lasted!

Not in Southampton where I live. I can't even access Hampshire. Only Southampton stuff.

That's unfortunate.  Has it always been so, or just recently?  I know Hampshire CC Libraries are having a new computer system and below is a quote from their website

Quote
We regret that while we prepare for the new library computer system there will be some disruption to the Online Library Catalogue.
It is no longer possible to reserve items online, although you can still access your details and renew items.

Modified - Just tried to search Times Digital etc. and all OK.  I guess it must be something to do with Southampton being a Unitary Authority.

Yes, Lizzie,
It is because Southampton is a Unitary Authority.  Their newspaper archive is not as comprehensive as Hampshire's but I cannot use my Southampton card to access  Hampshire's. And I cannot apply for a Hampshire card because I live in Southampton. Vicious circle.  Not really the place to discuss it, but I have strong opinions that all UK citizens who hold UK Library cards should be able to access online records in all UK libraries.  End of rant.
Yours

You do not necessarily need to live in an area to get a card
