I have my gt gt grandfathers death cert. and it says he died in the vestry of Buckley Street chapel (it was a Primitive Methodist) I have been googling and can find a few mentions of Buckley Street Methodist Church from last year and this year, but when I look on online maps there is a church called Buckley Methodist Church on Union Court near a place called Buckley Court and it is not very far from where my gt gt grandfather was living at the time (Park Grove) is this the same place or am I mixing up 2 different churches?

Hi Carolanne,
Thank you for this information it certainly is very useful and makes sense of what the maps say now. I have posted this message on different boards and I have even emailed the Barnsley Chronicle to have a letter put in their letters page so if you happen to see it, I haven't disregarded what you have told me I wanted to post the message about as much as possible to make sure I had more chance of reaching someone who knew, I've even emailed Barnsley Archives!
Thanks again
Sarah

Hi there
Dont suppose you could mail me the photos too?? My family stayed there too, and I always wondered what had happened to Buckley Street.
Thanks Possum

Hi Possum,
do you mean your family had something to do with the chapel or just the street, what a coincidence if they had connection with the chapel, if so what is the connection and when (if you don't mind me asking )

Hi,
I had a quick look at some my accumalated junk. This is part of a map of Barnsley before the area was redeveloped. The Chapel is marked CH at the corner of Buckley St. and Albion St.
If you look at Google Earth , You will see the Chapel ( Or at least I think It is the Chapel) To the right of the tower block.

Just glad that they have come in useful. It took ages to find the old map. I knew it was there but thanks to my wonderful filing system I didn't know exactly where. Looking for it though revealed my car documentation which had also dissappeared. So all in all a good result.
