Yes it does seem odd, they seemed to put what they like down in those days.
I am sure if you keep plugging away at it, you will eventually find out, I hope so, you deserve to.

...yes, thank you, the answer will appear with some of those birth certificates...assuming ggran Alice had one!
as per the 1881 census...it is most likely the Atcham 1875 March certificate (as Alice appears as Alice MORRIS born Shropshire, age 6)
as per the 1891 it is most likely Wolverhampton 1874 (as Alice appears age 17, born Wolverhampton, therefore 1874)
1901 - age 26, therefore 1875
death 1931 age 58 on gravestone (therefore 1874), BUT!! as per my gran (Alice's daughter), Alice died age 57 therefore 1875
...one or the other!!!

Well. looking at the odds its even isent it
I would say go with your gut feelings if you have any when there is nothing else, personally I woud be inclined to think that her daughter should have know her correct age whe she died as she was not that old, but then again.........
You will just have to plump for one, and if wrong try the other one, sometimes we dont have a choice, I have several wrong certificates.
I wish you luck
Patrish.

Hi Lesley,
This will be more difficult as its pre registration but I will scout around the IGI see if I can find anything.

...i found Thomas MORRIS, b. 1816, Sarah and their children on the IGI...
...she was Sarah PADDOCK, m. 1836, Saint Alkmund, Shrewsbury
...Thomas's parents were William and Martha nee EDWARDS, m. 1804 there is a sister Jane b. 1804
...there are probably other siblings between 1804 and 1816 but didn't see any others as yet...

...Alice MORRIS was born September 1874 in St. Alkmond, Shrewsbury, at her aunt's house...mother was Ann MORRIS...no father listed...right after Alice's birth Ann went home to 19, Forton, near Montford Bridge, where she registered the birth...
...Ann appears on the 1881 married to Joseph LAIGHT, and Alice is listed as a niece...
...would there be information about the father in the parish records...other family members were christened at St. Chad, Montford?

I doubt it Lesley, they are usually just the same as the birth certificate but it may be worth a look.
Maybe post on the Shropshire board here someone may have access to them if not try this, apologies if I have given you this before.
