Hi again... I wonder if they weren't in the U.K. for the 1911 as I have looked through the surname list for the 1911 in the Red Deer district...and just can't locate them under any obvious miss spellings.... I found a site where Bashaw was also considered Ponoka county so maybe there might be something here? http://www.rootsweb.com/~abponoka/res-local.htm#news
Not sure if we found this before, but here are names of living descendants of Arthur...please don't name them on the posting, as that would be against privacy laws... but perhaps you could find out something about the other family from this one? http://www.islandnet.com/~carlaw/pafg21.htm#324
The shipping list entry for their 1912 arrival actually says Bashaw Po. (Tho' it looks more like Beshno Po to me!)
So I think you are probably correct re: Ponoke.
Though I am not actually sure it's true that EITHER of them were residents of Bashaw! There is no evidence of Cecil or Winnie, together or separately, arriving in Canada or the USA between 1896 and 1912, on any of the available sources.
We won't know if they were in the UK in 1911 for another couple of years, but like you, I simply can't find them in Canada in that year. Hmmm - I wonder if its worth looking in the USA census returns for 1910?

I made contact with the person who owns this tree and they kindly told me that they hadn't done any further research on the Maddison and were not interested in doing so, unfortunately!
I have though had contact from a gentleman in canada whose grandfather was a cousin of Cecils and the gentleman himself was friendly with Nance and her husband. Unfortunately he didn't know Winnie nor Cecil personally, and apparently Nance threw out a lot of personal things after they had died!
Still no marriage though. I'm wondering whether they ever actually married!!
