I am trying to find the marriage record of my great grandparents. Their names are John William and Llyia Bailey. They lived in Salford and I think they were married at St. Stephen's church Salford.
I am trying to find Llyia'a maiden name.
Can anybody help me please.

Thanks for the reply.
John Bailey was born 1858-1860 and Llyia was born 1860 so if they got married when they were youngish I suppose we are looking around the 1880's mark, give or take a couple years.

Hi ...on the index its not showing up at first glance .
Do you have them on a census or when was first child born. There is only 1 Llyia Bailey on 1901 b Sheffield on index . Do you have the family group?

I haven't got access to the full census so can you put it on here and I will look for the marriage....Llyia looks to be a "pet" name so I would need to look at the full GRO quarter by quarter to narrow it down .

In 1891 her name is listed as Elizabeth and in 1881 as Eliza and her eldest daughter is Elizabeth so that is probably her actual name. She might have married in Sheffield as that is her birthplace and she went back there for the birth of child Henry born 1880 in Sheffield. Her eldest child was born in Salford in approx 1878
I can only find 2 possibilities at the moment
John Bailey and Eliza Dawson mar qtr 1878 8d 102 greater manchester
OR
John Bailey and Eliza Lessiter Buxton jun qtr 1878 9c 606 Sheffield Yorkshire

Maybe look for the birth certificate of one of the children as that will list mothers maiden name. When asking for certificate you can ask them to confirm if parents names are John and Elizabeth before paying for full certificate.

On searching actual entries in birth registers via ancestry I can only find a few likely entries. Assuming that 1860 is the correct birth year for Llyia/Elizabeth/Eliza and using birth of eldest child as reference point then she probably married between 1876 (age 16) and jun qtr 1878 (Elizabeths birth)
There are marriages for 3 John Baileys in Manchester 1 in Sheffield and only 1 in Salford.
The one in Salford has the same GRO ref as previously posted 8d 102 mar qtr 1878
John Bailey and Eliza Dawson so this a good possibilty

I would still go down the route of getting a birth certificate to be sure as I could be sending you on a wild goose chase. 
If you want the details of 1891 and 1881 censuses let me know.

If you send off for the certificate and verify Eliza Dawson is the correct one post agin and I can look up earlier censuses with her parents on I have had a quick look but until you know for definite there is not much use in further searching.
