JONES/VINCENT Marriage 1930

My Gran Alice Vincent married Thomas George Jones in 1931.  He was from Wales and his cert gives his birth c1908 occupation Sawyer and his father Thomas Jones deceased Mining Contractor. They were both living in George Rd Guildford at the time.

They had 2 children Patience (my mum) in 1931 and Pierre 1933 (Pierre was born Horsham).  Sometime between birth/conception Thomas Jones was found to already be married and the "story" is that he was arrested and imprisoned for bigamy.  Alice remarried in 1935 (back in Guildford).

Does anyone know anything about this or where I can find records of possible arrest/trial. As I don't know if he was arrested in Guildford or Horsham - would Horsham news come under the Surrey Advertiser for those dates.
No one knows what happened to him and I don't think I could stand looking for Thomas Jones born in Wales births!

Alice/Patience/Pierre and Alice's second husband are all now deceased... I am assuming that Thomas Jones is also probably no longer with us as he'd be hitting 100 by now.

Any help welcome.

A lot of newspaper records aren't indexed so you might have some trouble - if he was charged with bigamy it would have come under possibly the Central Criminal Court (records at Kew) or one of the local assizes (Surrey Assizes records are probably at the Surrey History Centre).

Thanks.  I wasn't sure if I could get records at kew or elsewhere as it is in the 1930s - thought they might have 100/75 years privacy thing on them?Huh

Hi Jess,
I wouldn't have thought that a public trial wouldn't have any privacy clamp-down on it.  If he went to prison his record would not be available but, as Jorose said, the court proceedings should be open.  Someone might correct me if I'm wrong.
Maybe if you did some digging around to get some background on the family so that you could narrow down the time-frame of this incident & get a clearer picture of where he might have been arrested,
