Bicester Market End:Parker, Smith, Baughan
« on: Wednesday 11 April 07 01:08 BST (UK) »

Hi all,

I have traced my Grandmother's family back to John Parker born 1870 Bicester Market End. Further research has shown I have many old relatives who lived there 1800-1900 and the families are Parker, Baughan and Smith and they all seem to be interwoven in New Buildings and various marriages between the families.

Has anybody got an information on Bicester Maret End and/ or the families I am researching.

If you have I would love to hear from you.

Hi,Terry,
My gfather was Arthur William Baughan,Whilst trying to track back, I found him to have been born 1875 in holbon . His parents were Henry Baughan & Sarah Carthew, both from bicester. A contact on GR gave an address as Market End, but that was before I found this Arthur William.
If this is the one i want, He Spent alot of time in South Africa, during and after the boar war.
If anything matches, would love to find more family members.
Please let me know yea/naye. Undecided

Hi Lilma,

Sorry I can't quite understand your query. Is the Arthur William you have found born in Holborn your grandfather or are you doubtful.?

I have looked at my records and I have found an Arthur in my history, born 1875 Bicester Market End to William, a Wheelwright and Susan and if he is the right one he has brothers and sisters.

Just going to try and find his Birth record to see if mine registered as Arthur William.

Lilma

Have just checked and found my Arthur was registered as plain Arthur bc- 3a 633, Bicester so doesn't look like yours. However thats not to say his Father William is not related to  Arthur William's father Henry.

Give me further information and I might be able to help.

Hello Terry, I am new to this Rootschat.com.

William Baughan (1837) is my husband's great grandfather a wheelwright in Bicester he married his cousin Susan (1846) daughter of Thomas Baughan (1809).  Their eldest son is Edwin b 7/7/1877 - died when he was in his late 40's of cancer of the bowel.

Edwin had a brother Arthur born 1875

Both these brothers each married sisters - Edwin married in 1901 Martha Payne of Bicester (1881) and Arthur married Mary Annie Payne (1879)

I have a photograph of Edwin and Martha taken at time of their marriage and they lived in Derby at the time.   Also of Arthur and Mary Annie (as she was known by the family) with two boys.   I also have a photo of Martha Baughan, Arthur and Mary Annie in middle age taken in Grendon Underwood where Martha lived.

This info any use to you,   I would like more info of the life of Wheelwrights of Bicester as there seemed to have been a number of Baughans who were wheelwrights - Susan's father Thomas had the business.

Hear from you  Fredrika.

Hi Fredrika,

Lovely to hear from you and I have some info which should help. I think your husband's great grandfather William died between 1891 and 1901 as his great grandmother Susan had married my great great grandfather Thomas Smith by 1901. His wife Olive had died in 1880. Susan took two of her children Emily born circa 1887 and Walter circa 1890 to live with him.

My records show Edwin had two older brothers William T born circa 1873 and Arthur born 1875. I think william and susan had at least 9 children, my records show Edwin had two older brothers and an older sister, Mary born  c1866, William T born circa 1873 and Arthur born 1875. They also had john(c1879), kate(c1880) and Henry(c1883) as well as the forementioned Emily and Walter.

I hope I am right, perhaps you can check your records to make sure we are talking about the same family. I am sure we are as the dates agree.

Whilst it would be interesting to see how the baughans got on after, you can appreciate that as this was a second marriage they are not related in anyway.

With regards Wheelwrights in Bicester I have no info although i have a couple of old books about Bicester. I am in Essex. A relative , who is also searching the tree lives in didcot and gave me a lot of info although how much she will be able to help you is not good as her part of the tree does not touch with the Baughans.

Anyway lovely to hear from you and I look forward to receiving your thoughts.
