Marriage lookup request
« on: Sunday 22 June 08 16:14 BST (UK) »

Hi,
could someone find the following marriage for me please?

I think it took place between 1818 and 1829(sorry about the wide range)

Christopher JESSOP/JESSUP-to Diana ?

according to the census he was born in Kirton (in Holland) in c 1797and she in Stickney,Lincs in c 1801.The 1st child of theirs that I've been able to trace so far (called Susan)was born c 1829-hence the latter date and was born in Thornton le Fen.They also also lived at one time in Toynton All Saints(Allotment?).If the parents names are mentioned I'ld like to have them as well please.

Many thanks to anyone who can help me,

Hi Trisha

11 Sept 1823 Stickney
Christopher JESSUP to Diana ABLARD

You need to be careful with Diana ... there were 2 (according to IGI) ... one in 1800 (John and Mary) , one in 1802 (James and Eliz)  Shocked

Perhaps children's names will give a clue.

EDIT: IGI has Ann, 26 Dec 1824 as a child of theirs.

The "other" Diana married as early as 1819 ... perhaps yours was the later one.

Hi Geoff,
thanks for clearing up her surname. It seems I've jumped one brick wall and crashed into another. Cry
Try as I might I can't find her death on FreeBMD which might clear this up as hopefully it would have her age on it.Unfortunately I can't find her after the 1861 census(in Toynton All Saints).(which would have narrowed it down). That doesn't mean she's dead of course just enumerated badly- Grin
Many thanks,

Burials at Wildmore Fen
15 Sept 1877 Dinah JESSUP (76)
16 June 1861 Christopher JESSUP (64)

I agree, she isn't in the BMD lists for that quarter.

Hi Geoff,
thanks for that.
Her age makes her look like the 1801 Diana.Would you agree?

Not exactly ... as I said before, there was an 1800 and a 1802  ... but looking again at batch C031792 I see

three of them  Shocked

5 Jan 1800 Dinah, dau of James and Elizabeth (I guess this one died)
30 March 1800 Diana, dau of John and Mary
17 Oct 1802 Diana, dau of James and Eliz

Hi Geoff,
oh Blimey Roll Eyes
I've got Diana Ablards coming out of the woodwork. You're right of course .My Maths was never very good at the best of times so counting back it could be either of them.
Many thanks,

The other Dinah/Diana .....

She married William FOOT(T)ER in Stickney in 1819.

Two children born in Carrington (Batch C027401) - one called Elizabeth,  t'other Elijah, then Sally in Stickney in 1830.

Diana FUTTER buried in Stickney 22 May 1831 aged 32.

William FOOTER (wid) married again in Carrington in 1831.

This suggests to me that the one that married Wm FOOTER was perhaps the one bap in 1800, leaving by elimination the one born in 1802 to marry Chris JESSUP ... but I could be wrong Wink

Hi Geoff,
thanks for the extra research you've just done on my behalf. Diana JESSUP seems to have lived in Thornton le Fen and Toynton All Saints at the time Diana Footer was elsewhere having her children. In 1830 Diana Jessup had a daughter Elizabeth who was baptised at Thornton le  Fen.It seems Mrs Jessup was born in 1802
Thanks for all your help it's greatly appreciated,
