I think the Bird has the correct James.
Following the one who was born in St Davids, he appears to stay in the county.

1901 Census 27, Llangfelach Road
James Phillips 35 Scruff-man in Tin Plate Works born Pembroke, Milford Sarah Ann 38 born Morriston David Phillips 11 born Morriston Wm. George Phillips 9 born Morriston John Phillips 6 born Morriston
Milford would be Haverfordwest Registry Office, as you have both parents names it might be worth giving them a call
or they have an email registrars(AT)pembrokeshire.gov.uk just replace the (AT) with a @

From BMD ( and 1881 census info) it is possible that
David Phillips married Catherine Evans, Narbeth, Q2, 1862

Hi Merc2081,
Thanks for the Marriage Ref, - yes, they are shown on the 1871 Census details that Osprey posted.
David Phillips must have died at a young age, as Catherine is a widow by the 1881 Census.
Cheers, Romilly.
(I have a photo, taken in Swansea in 1926; which I believe shows some of the Phillips cousins, - with my father & his brothers. I think that Evan Rees Phillips might be the one on the left/back row).

you can't attach to a look-up board. Think it's to make sure no-one puts chunks of copyright material on. You could attach to the main county board though!
