The Ontario Cem Finding Aid shows a Clara JOHNSTONE and a John JOHNSTONE as buried in Greenhill/Lucknow Cemetery, Huron Co, Ashfield Twp. The reference book for details of this burial is HU-3172
If someone has this book and can check these two persons out I'd be most grateful. I have just found the JOHNSTON/SUFFEL marriage in abt 1895 and am now trying to track down the family. This cem reference is the only lead I have.
What I have is a Clara May SUFFEL b 1872 who died aft 1911: by 1895 she had married a John Irving JOHNSTONE born 1867 died aft 1911. Are those mentioned in the book HU-3169 in the right time frame and are there other Johnstones mentioned who obviously are related by being named on headstones or in the same grave?
Any info about this will be much appreciated and thanks if you are able to help. charlotte

There is a death John JOHNSTONE in that district, but in 1902... http://www.rootsweb.com/~onvsr/death/deathindex_J_new.htm
Hi, MJP! The censuses have the son down as LLoyd ( & Flyod) but John's father was David, so must have been using his middle name...

Hi MJP and JJ, Thanks for your help.
MJP, yes please to your offer to send details of marriage reg of Clara and John , and birth reg for David. That is all new detail- and the detail is what leads one on- at least it leads me on.
JJ Thanks for the great url- I'd never seen it before and it seems to me I'd better give up all other plans for this week and go through it. Re Lloyd/Floyd names- I had picked that up but not known which is correct.
Thank you both again for your help- and I'll plod on and hope someone has the cemetery book.

MJP, Thank you very much for that.
I am working forward from firm knowledge from English parish Regs, through emigration to Ontario in 1830 and now have got some of the descendants of the HUMPHRIES/ JOYCE family in Ontario- eg those about whom you have sent me info. So it is coming forward to the present and trying to trace the descendants of Clara May SUFFEL & now those of David Peter Floyd JOHNSTON that is my objective. Maybe I'll manage to locate a living person with some old photos... dream on...
Is there a freebie website that give you the great detailed info you have kindly sent me ? If so may I have the url please?
Thank you MJP, charlotte

MJP, Have realized the answer I gave a few mins ago in reply to your questions contains an ambiguity. It is not just Clara May SUFFEL in whom I am interested but any SUFFELS who are the descendants of Peter SUFFEL b 1833 & his wife Elizabeth JOYCE b 1839[in Somerset England]. Elizabeth JOYCE and her descendants are my main interest hence her Suffel children and their descendants are those I seek.
Peter & Eliz SUFFEL's children, as far as I have been able to establish are: Wm John b 1860 Emma 1862 Edward c. 1864 Elizabeth 1866 Hannah Margaret 1869 Andrew c. 1871[ maybe he was the marriage witness] Clara May b 1872 Fred 1874
Any info on any of these is of interest and will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, charlotte

Here is a link for the Census' of 1901 & 1911. http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/index.html
If you search for the name Suffel you will find a few books where they are mentioned. http://www.ourroots.ca/

Hi charlotte,
This link that Janice gave is the best for free BMD info - it is a volunteer transcription site. Although it is not complete, the marriages and births in particular have quite good coverage.
I have a subscription to Ancestry.ca, which has all Ontario BMDs indexed, so that is where I got the two records I gave you.
I'll have a quick look for some death records for you, as they are less likely to be on the free site...

028879-07 (Dundas Co.) Division of Mountain Peter Suffel Date of Death: 4 Apr 1907 Age 73 Residence: Lot 20 Concession 6 Farmer Married Place of birth: Agusta Cause of death: Heart failure Duration: a few hours Physician: Dr. McLaughlin Methodist Informant: Fred W. Suffel Date of registration: 8 June 1907
I can see several other Suffel deaths, but none of them seem to be directly related to Peter and Elizabeth (although they are probably siblings or cousins of Peter, and their families). There seem to have beren quite a few Suffel families in the area at the time.
I see from the 1881 census that Elizabeth died before that (so between 1874 and 1881 based on birthdate of last child) but I cannot see a death registration for her. Have you seen the baptism records for Clara, Hannah, William, and Elizabeth on this site? http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wjmartin/wm-s_156.htm

The Hughes are on the 1901 in Winchester, with a daughter Kathleen, but may not have had more children, as they are also in MooseJaw on the 1911 ( He's Hisam) and only the same three in household...J.J.

Thank you JaniceM, MJP and JJ for all those goodies and the help.
Janice, The ouroots link is new to me so will have a look there. I need a map of Ontario showing the locations of the Counties and thw various twps mentioned- I have no idea what is close to what and this hinders memaking educated guesses. A lot of other things hinder that also but that's another matter.
MJP, in the past I've used Bill Martin's site and found it most helpful but that was before I was aware of the SUFFEL connection. Will go back to his pages and search there. JJ will try to get onto that enquirer on the Dundas list that you mention- sounds a good lead and thank you.
Thank you all again for your help. Will now get onto entering the data into my FTM program and going to the various sites you have suggested. charlotte
