I have an ancestor JOHN SNOWDON who gives his birthplace as Warwick Cumberland in the1861 census but Carlisle in 1871 census. I have been unable to find a baptism for him (circa 1810) though I have looked at Parish records and the IGI for that area. I have found the family in Warwick  in 1811 with other children born after that date to father JOHN SNOWDON married to MARY STOREY both from Northumberland. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi Sudee, welcome to Rootschat Smiley

The IGI for Warwick doesn't start until 1813 but you say you've looked at the register for earlier dates anyway.  I see they married in 1808, had daughter Mary in May 1809.  Then I guess you've found another in 1811 in Warwick ... was there enough time for a child between Mary and the one bap in 1811?

Could he have been baptised with another name, then adopted his father's name when he left home?

Hi, I have just joined RootsChat but have been also been struggling with the same John Snowdon for some time.  We believe that we are linked to him through his daughter Margaret.  Sorry nothing new to offer with regard to John's life in Cumberland  at the moment but was wondering if you have made a break through. Will post another reply if I find anything.
