Adobe removed in favour of FOXIT
« on: Wednesday 11 April 07 20:13 BST (UK) »

I sought advice about Adobe and removed it in favour of FOXIT as suggested. Now when I try to get into the Chat room I get a notice saying I need to upgrade micromedia flash player with active X control. As this seems to be connected to Adobe will I need to revert back. If not will installing micromedia with active X cause me more problems. Answers in simple terms would be appreciated. Thanks

Flash Player used to be owned by Macromedia (not Micromedia) until Adobe acquired it.

Theoretically, Flash Player is still independent of Adobe Acrobat and you should be able to download it without having Acrobat present.

Adobe are a large company and manufacture a wide range of software products.

The Adobe product you replaced with Foxit PDF Reader is actually Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Adobe Flash is another program from their range and while it is supplied by Adobe it has nothing to do with pdf files or reading them which is what the first program did.

Thanks Downside and Falkryn. I think it was a typo when I said Micromedia rather than Macromedia.   I shall download it if it is safe to do so.
