I have just remembered something else about the marriage certificate of "John" Donovan and Elizabeth Sullivan . Althoughh he says he was 24 there is note above his name saying "24" which ties up with his birth in Feb 1884. He would have been 23 but it seems for some reason he took a year off his age.
You have to keep on your toes sometimes with people like John, not only does his age seem to vary by a year occassionally but also his first name changed on the census and it was only because I could match everyone else up in the family that I knew I had the right man.
Eliabeth is still a mystery. She was apparently born c1887-1888 but I can't find her on the 1891 census. My uncle remembers her having a strong Irish accent so I believe she was born in Ireland but I haven't found her yet.
This is why I love genealogy, all the puzzles and mysteries to solve!
